I wouldn’t put it past Prince to be a “let them eat cake” kind of guy, but when I first heard about his $2100 “Opus,” a gaudy limited edition book and loaded iPod touch, I thought even the Purple One was losing touch. I love Prince and all but there is no way I'm going to unass 2100.00 for a movie I already have. Secondly, unless he is going to add some outtakes to the mix that no one has heard, this just doesn't make any sense to me...  "A united state of mind will never be divided

My assumption is that this is some sort of a prestigious collectors item. Sort of a way to ensure brand exclusiveness 
Other artists have done things like this, so it's not too unusual. I don't think Prince meant it as a way to frustrate regular fans. To put rare outtakes and other mind blowing things in the item would have definitely done that. I think this is nothing more than a collectors item for wealthy folks who just want something to spend their money on. I can only hope Prince would reserve his eventual release of vault material and the like at prices affordable to the masses. By no including these things on the Opus, I think he's avoiding alienating fans that can't afford it. Imagine how pissed fans would be if Prince put mindblowing material on the Opus? Nah... I'm assuming it's just a rich man's collectors item, and folks shouldn't be offended by the price. . [Edited 8/6/09 17:12pm] | |

I can't imagine paying $2100 for an ipod, no matter what the exclusive content was. I could see buying a Prince guitar or keyboard or exclusive vinyl singles of outtakes maybe signed or something. An ipod just doesn't excite me. | |

I was just thinking that too it'll take me like 30 years almost like buying a house to finish my school loans plus if I think about it -it'll take me like a little over 2 years to finish paying for it if I pay 100 a month - that's a bill right there...and question - Does it include interest? Oh, you're one of them fans who defend every ridiculous crap Prince pulls by pretending it is done behind his back,without his consent? Like whenever there was some insult on Love4OneAnother's news pages, you said it wasn't Prince posting the stuff. I remember your type from the PPML. Of course, on the PPML it could very well be that three posts up or down some other fan was claiming Prince is a control freak. And in some cases it was the same person making both claims. I thought this is what the Lotus website was for? He should be posting these kinds of concerts and music on that site, people have paid their $77 for exclusive things like this so the question would remain...why is he not offering this to the fans that paid for the membership for Lotus?
