Like the other album era appreciation threads

Let's deal with the combination of Prince album, how the music connects to the film, Protege albums, B sides long versions and all other music created-released and unreleased that came from this high time in Purple History. A very productive and creative year for Prince accompanied by drastic change and a huge output of songs 2nd only 2 the Parade/Dream Factory sessions.

Music from the Motion Picture Purple Rain (also called just Purple Rain) is a soundtrack album by Prince and The Revolution. It was released by Warner Bros. Records on June 25, 1984 and was Prince's sixth album. Prince wrote all of the songs on the album. Some of the tracks had portions recorded live when Prince performed on August 3, 1983 at the First Avenue club in Minneapolis. This show was a benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theater. It was also the first appearance in Prince's band "The Revolution" by Wendy Melvoin, his guitarist in the Purple Rain film and for a few years afterwards.

Purple Rain regularly is ranked among the best albums in music history. Time Magazine in 1993 ranked it the 15th greatest album of all time, and it placed 18th on VH1's list of The Greatest Rock´n Roll Albums of All Time. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it 72nd greatest album of all time and Zounds Magazine 18th greatest album of all time. The album was 4th in Plásticos y Decibelios list The Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2007, the editors of Vanity Fair labeled it the best soundtrack of all time and by Tempo Magazine it was named greatest album of 1980s: http://www.theinsider.com...Soundtrack

Purple Rain was the first Prince album (officially)recorded with and credited to his backing group the Revolution. The resulting album was musically denser than Prince's previous one-man albums, emphasizing full band performances, and multiple layers of guitars, keyboards, icy electronic synthesizer effects, drum machines, and other instruments. Musically, Purple Rain remained grounded in the electro-funk and R&B elements of Prince's previous work while demonstrating a more pronounced rock feel in its grooves and emphasis on guitar showmanship. As a soundtrack record, much of the music had a grandiose, synthesized, and even—by some evaluations—a vaguely psychedelic sheen to the production and performances. The music on Purple Rain is generally regarded as the most pop-oriented of Prince's career, though a number elements point towards the more experimental pop/psychedelic records Prince would record after Purple Rain. As with many massive crossover albums, Purple Rain's consolidation of a myriad of styles, from pop/rock to urban R&B to dance, is generally acknowledged to account in part for its enormous popularity.

In addition to the record's breakthrough sales, music critics noted the innovative and experimental aspects of the soundtrack's music, most famously on the spare, bass-less "When Doves Cry", which was frequently identified as pop at its most avant-garde. Other aspects of the music, especially its synthesis of electronic elements with organic instrumentation and full-band performances (some, as noted above, recorded live) along with its landmark consolidation of rock and R&B, were identified by critics as distinguishing, even experimental factors. Stephen Erlewine of All Music Guide writes that Purple Rain finds Prince "consolidating his funk and R&B roots while moving boldly into pop, rock, and heavy metal" and identifies the record's nine songs as "uncompromising...forays into pop" and "stylistic experiments", echoing general sentiment that Purple Rain's music represented Prince at his most popular without forsaking his experimental bent.[2]

"Take Me with U" was originally written for the Apollonia 6 album, but was later pulled for Purple Rain. An unfortunate result of this addition was making crucial cuts to the suite-like "Computer Blue", which circulates amongst collectors in a superior, though unreleased extended version (a portion of this second section of "Computer Blue" can be heard in the film Purple Rain as Prince walks in on the men of The Revolution rehearsing). The song "Darling Nikki" is notable for its lyrical content, which eventually led to the use of Parental Advisory stickers and imprints on album covers by ways of Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center.

Reception
Prince won three Grammy Awards for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV Special (Purple Rain) and Best R&B Song (songwriter) (Chaka Khan's "I Feel for You") and was nominated for Album of the Year (Purple Rain). "Purple Rain" (the song) also won an Oscar for Best Original Song Score in 1985.[4]

Purple Rain sold 13 million units in the United States, earning a Diamond Award from the Recording Industry Association of America. According to Billboard magazine, the album spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard album charts (August 4, 1984 to January 18, 1985) becoming one of the top soundtracks ever. Purple Rain traded the #1 album chart position with Bruce Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. twice, during 1984 and 1985. Two songs from Purple Rain, "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy", would top the U.S. singles charts and were hits around the world, while the title track would go to number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The album has sold 20 million copies worldwide.

Sugar Walls written by Alexander Nevermind

Sugar Walls

My sugar walls
Where I come from there's a place called Heaven
That's a place where all the good children go
The houses are of silver, the streets are gold
But there's more where U come from - my sugar walls

My sugar walls {x2}

Blood races 2 your private spots
Lets me know there's a fire
U can't fight passion when passion is hot
Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls

CHORUS:
Let me take U somewhere U never been
I can show U things U never seen
I can make U never wanna fall in love again
Come spend the night inside my sugar walls

Take advantage, it's alright
I feel so alive when I'm with U
Come and feel my presence, it's reigning 2night
Heaven on earth inside my sugar walls

CHORUS

I can tell U want me (My sugar walls)
It's impossible 2 hide
Your body's on fire, admit it
Come inside
My sugar walls

My...My sugar walls
Come inside my sugar walls
My sugar walls
My sugar walls
Come spend the night inside my sugar walls

Have U ever been in love?
I can make U never wanna fall in love again
Don't U wanna spend the night?

Easton collaborated with Prince on controversial track "Sugar Walls," written by Prince under the pseudonym "Alexander Nevermind". The track and its accompanying video were banned in some regions due to its sexually risque lyrics and was one of several songs cited by Tipper Gore on her Filthy Fifteen list in her efforts to introduce mandatory warning labelling of explicit musical albums.

Although Easton's video clip for "Sugar Walls" did not in itself feature any controversial content, some music-video broadcasters refused the video airplay because of the sexual imagery of the song's lyrics. Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart constantly criticized the song on his television program when it was first released.

A version of the song performed by Prince himself is rumored to exist.

Rel 8.11.1984
When released as a single, the song became Prince's second number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the two component charts, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs[1] and Hot Dance Club Play charts,[2] as well as becoming a UK Top 10 hit. The B-side was the lyrically controversial "Erotic City".

The song was also notable for opening with a funeral-like organ solo with Prince giving the "eulogy" for "this thing called life." That eulogy ends with a distinctive drum machine pattern and then quickly becomes a full hard rock number with heavy guitar, bass and keyboards. The song's percussion was programmed with the venerable Linn LM-1 drum machine, an instrument frequently used in many of Prince's songs.

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here 2day 2 get through this thing called life
Electric word life, it means 4ever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here 2 tell U there's somethin' else... the afterworld
A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night
So when U call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one - Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
Cuz in this life things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life U're on your own
And if de-elevator tries 2 bring U down, go crazy
Punch a higher floor!

If U don't like the world U're living in
Take a look around U, at least U got friends
U see, I called my old lady 4 a friendly word
She just picked up the phone, dropped it on the floor
"Ahh! Ahh!" was all I heard

CHORUS:
Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh no, let's go!
Let's go crazy, let's get nuts
Let's look 4 the purple banana till they put us in the truck
Let's go!

We're all excited, but we don't know why
Maybe it's cuz we're all gonna die
And when we do, what's it all 4?
U better live now before the grim reaper
Come knockin' on your door
Tell me...

CHORUS

Come on, baby
Let's get nuts!
Yeah (Crazy)
Let's go crazy

Are we gonna let de-elevator bring us down?
Oh no, let's go crazy! (Go crazy!)
I said let's go crazy! (Go crazy!)
Let's go! (Let's go!)
Go! (Let's go!)

Dr. Everything'll Be Alright will make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children

He's coming!
He's coming!
Coming!

Take me away!

Erotic City 7.18.1984
Erotic City Come Alive...featuring Sheila E. © 1984 Controversy Music

All of my purple life
I've been lookin' 4 a dame
That would wanna be my wife
That was my intention main

CHORUS:
If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me

Everytime I comb my hair
Thoughts of U get in my eyes
U're a sinner, I don't care
I just want your creamy thighs

CHORUS

All of my hang-ups are gone
How I wish U felt the same
We could fuck until the dawn Until the dawn
How I wish U were my dame Baby, won't U be my dame?

Baby, U're so creamy

If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time (Oh yeah)
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could fuck until the dawn (Come alive)
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me

If we cannot make babies (U and me)
Maybe we can make some time
Some time, some time, some time, Erotic City
If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could fuck until the dawn (Come alive)
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me
(Baby, U're just so.. U're just so..)
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, yeah

Dance Electric is a very funky rock touched song that was written by Prince
the Dance Electric is also the 4 the Purple Rain B side GOD(lyrical version)

and is referenced in the song

Wake up children
Dance the Dance Electric

Weither or not it was initially intended for Prince & the Revolution or Andre is not known but definately shows the fantastic creativity of output of this era. Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman remained as backing vocals on the Cymone release.

The Dance Electric
Good morning children
Take a look out your window
Our world is falling
It's almost time 2 go

(Dance)

Dance the Dance Electric
The rhythm is love and love is blind
Love your enemies
There isn't much time, there isn't much time

Look - our world is falling
A rhythm-less house of blinded prophecy
Hear our Master calling
This isn't what He wanted us 2 be

We got 2 dance the Dance Electric
Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul
Come on and dance the Dance Electric
We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

Don't - it don't make U happy
2 give another someone your own smile
Dance the dance electric
Never mind your hatred, try a brand new style

Dance the Dance Electric
Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul
U got 2 dance the Dance Electric
We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

We... love... all... enemies

Look - U're livin' in Babylon
Makin', but not feelin' love at all
When your youth is gone, when it comes 2 dawn
A light of truth will shine and U will fall

That's why U got 2 dance the Dance Electric
Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul
U got 2 dance the Dance Electric
We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

See the light inside of us
U're stuck in living, livin' life as bad
Whatever U do, don't U let your life go without my love
It's the only life that U will ever have

Why don't U (dance) dance the Dance Electric?
Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul
Why don't U dance the Dance Electric?
We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go (almost time 2)

Dance the Dance Electric
Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul
Come on and dance the Dance Electric
We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

God © 9.26.84
B-side

God:the Dance Electic was performed regularly on the Purple Rain tour

God
In the beginning, there was God
He made the earth and the heavens
He gave us light 2 rule the day
And another light 2 rule the night
The Lord, thy God
He made, He made the seas
He made the fruit upon the tree

When He saw
When He saw that it was good
He made a man
He made a man
Only He could, only He could

God made U
God made me 2
He made us all
He made us all equally

Now U say it

God made U, God made me
He made us all equally

Wake up children
Dance the Dance Electric
There isn't much time
Who screamed?
Was it U?

Another Lonely Christmas

Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U should've been there
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4

Remember the time we swam naked in your father's pool
Boy, he was upset that night
But boy, was that ever cool
Remember that night we played pokeno 4 money
And U robbed me blind
Remember how U used 2 scream so loud cuz U...
U hated that number 9
Hey, I saw your sister skatin' on the lake this afternoon
Good heaven, how she's grown
She swoons the boy skaters cuz she's so tall
But of all your father's children
All your father's children, baby
U know U are the finest of them all
U are brighter than the northern star and I...

Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U, U should've been there
Cuz U see, of all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4, yeah

My mama used 2 say always trust your lover
But now I guess that only applies 2 her
Cuz baby, U promised me
Baby, U promised me U'd never leave
Then U died on the 25th day of December

Oh baby, last night, oh, I spent another lonely, lonely Christmas
Darling, baby, U, U should've been there
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4, yeah

Your father said it was pneumonia
Your mother said it was stress
But the doctor said U were dead and I...
I say it's senseless
Every Christmas night 4 7 years now
I drink banana daiquiris till I'm blind
As long as I can hear U smiling, baby
U won't hear my tears
Another lonely Christmas is mine, yeah, mine, yeah
Another lonely Christmas is mine

Last night, yeah, I spent another lonely, lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U should've been there, yeah
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that make my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4

Another lonely...

The correct tracklisting for the alleged test pressing is...

Let’s Go Crazy

Computer Blue
Darling Nikki
Wednesday
Purple Rain
I Would Die 4 U
Baby I’m A Star
Father’s Song

(besides, "When Doves Cry" hadn't even been recorded at that point
and I've no idea where they got the "dance in the moonlight" bit from)

When Doves Cry
Dig if U will the picture
Of U and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me
Can U my darling
Can U picture this?

Dream if U can a courtyard
An ocean of violets in bloom
Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and U

How can U just leave me standing
Alone in a world that's so cold? (So cold)
Maybe I'm just 2 demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father - 2 bold
Maybe U're just like my mother
She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like when doves cry

Touch if U will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
U've got the butterflies all tied up
Don't make me chase U
Even doves have pride

How could U just leave me standing
Alone in a world so cold? (World so cold)
Maybe I'm just 2 demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father - 2 bold

Don't cry

Prince wrote and composed "When Doves Cry" after all the other tracks on Purple Rain were complete. In addition to vocals, he also played all instruments on the track. The song's texture is remarkably stark. There is no bass line at all, which is very unusual for a dance song; Prince has said that there originally was a bass line, but decided that the song was too conventional with it intact. During live performances of the song on the Purple Rain Tour, Brown Mark, Prince's then-bass player, added bass lines in this song and other songs without a bass line. [1] The song features an intro of a guitar solo and drum machine, followed by a looped guttural vocal. After the lyrics, there is another, much longer guitar and a synthesizer solo. The song ends on a classical music-inspired keyboard piece backed by another synthesizer solo

Lookin 4 my sunshine
But all Ive got is two cigarettes
And this broken heart of mine

So let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down

The main drag is knowing that
Youre holding someone else tight

I wanna to call u everyday
And beg u 2 be near me
But I know your head is underwater
I doubt that u could hear me

Then Im the one whos always alone

So here I sit in my lonely room
Lookin 4 my sunshine
All Ive got is 2 cigarettes
And this broken heart of mine

Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down

Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down

Why dont you answer your phone?

I love this song and it's one of those that has a definative PRINCE sound
a bit of electricity and steam behind this
the description of the the Belle sounds like Prince in a fantasy setting

The Belle of St. Mark was a frail but a passionate creature
Ebony hair and eyes a deep blue-green
The Belle of St Mark wore clothes that belonged 2 his father
Even though he was only 17
CHORUS:
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
It tears me apart whenever I hear him cry
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
And if he doesn't love me I think I'll probably die

U can tell from expressions that he makes public
That he suffers from a badly broken heart
He smiles as he feeds the afternoon pigeons
But he cries as he walks the night streets of St. Mark

CHORUS

The Belle of St. Mark, he don't talk 2 strangers, he's so mysterious
His erotic persuasion provokes me like no other man
The fire I have 4 him is undoubtedly serious
I need 2 make him see that he needs love 2 forget
And if anyone can help him, I can
I can help, I can help U

His Paris hair, it blows in the warm Parisian air
That blows whenever his Paris hair is there
The woman that hurt him surely must have trouble sleeping
Cuz the Belle of St. Mark is a beauty extraordinaire

Oh, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
It tears me apart whenever I hear him cry
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
And if he doesn't love me I think I'll probably die

Ooh, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
It tears me apart whenever I hear him cry
Ooh, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with the Belle of St. Mark
And if he doesn't love me I think I'll probably die
And if he doesn't love me I think I'll probably die
And if he don't... I'll die

This isn't right... There was no test pressing with that track listing. Where are you getting that information?

The correct tracklisting for the alleged test pressing is...

Let’s Go Crazy
The Beautiful Ones
Computer Blue
Darling Nikki
Wednesday
Purple Rain
I Would Die 4 U
Baby I’m A Star
Father’s Song

(besides, "When Doves Cry" hadn't even been recorded at that point
and I've no idea where they got the "dance in the moonlight" bit from)

My understanding is that there is no 'Wednesday'.

Even though released during the Parade era
it was intended for Apollonia 6 album

That could have been a much better album, Especially if Vanity continued with V6
and by this song I get a cool image of what V6 or A6 would have been like as a protege group during the Parade era

Manic Monday

6:00 already, I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream
But I can't be late cuz then I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days when U wish your bed was already made
CHORUS:
It's just another manic Monday
Wish it was Sunday
Cuz that's my fun-day
My I-don't-have-2-run day
It's just another manic Monday

Have 2 catch an early train, got 2 be 2 work by 9
And if I had an aeroplane I still couldn't make it on time
Cuz it takes me so long just 2 figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train but the boss is already there

CHORUS

All of my nights, why did my lover
Have 2 pick last night 2 get down (Last night, last night)
Doesn't it matter that I have 2 feed the both of us
(Doesn't it matter, both of us)
Employment's down (Employment's down)
He tells me in his bedroom voice:
"C'mon honey, let's go make some noise"
Time it goes so fast (When U're having fun)

CHORUS
Wish it was Sunday
Cuz that's my fun-day
It's just another manic Monday

always found the lyrics hard to read on the record sleeve.
the cheesy flowers and all.

The amount of variants/singles/picture discs/e.t.c... it's all pretty overwhelming.

Deservedly so for such a fucking fantastic album.

There is a studio jam called White Girls where the lyrics from Ice Cream Castles & Erotic City are used, you hear Prince near the end saying something to Susannah

ICE CREAM CASTLES
We are young, we are free on earth 2gether
Let's fall in love
U are fine, U are white, I am of color
Let's fall in love
Ice cream castles in the summertime
Ice cream castles in the summer

I want U, U want me, we want each other
Is that so wrong?
It's raining, mad sisters, why can't they realize
That it won't be long?

We're all ice cream castles in the summertime
Ice cream castles in the summer

Let's do something soon (Let's do something {repeat})

We are young, we are free, let's come 2gether
Before the end
I am blue, U are 2, what could be better?
Let's make friends

We're all ice cream castles in the summertime
Ice cream castles in the summertime
We're all ice cream castles in the summer
Ice cream castles when we fall
Ice cream castles in the summertime
Summertime {x3}

Is that what U need?

White girls
Black girls
Orientals
Jamaican, huh

Ice cream castles in the summertime (Orientals)
We're all ice cream castles in the summer
Ice cream castles when we fall
Ice cream castles in the summertime
Summertime

White girls, uh
Black girls, huh
Orientals (I want U)
Jamaican (U want me, we want each other)

(White girls) (Black girls)
We are young
We are free on earth 2gether

Let's do something, let's do something soon {x8}

We are young
We are free, let's come 2gether

I've always like this song, it feels good, a young love song and a sunny day-winter spring fall or summer

People sometimes write it off as a 'weaker' song on the album, but I disagree, the composition and execution is almost faultless

Intended for the Vanity6-Apollonia 6 album, it was pulled 4 Prince's own
Lisa said she sang behind Apollonia's vocals to add some strength to it
With headphones you can actually hear both of their vocals

In the movie I love how the introduction of the white cloud guitar opens Takes Me With U

Take Me With U

I can't disguise the pounding of my heart
It beats so strong
It's in your eyes, what can I say
They turn me on

CHORUS:
I don't care where we go
I don't care what we do
I don't care pretty baby
Just take me with U

Come on and touch the place in me
That's calling out your name
We want each other oh so much
Why must we play this game?

Don't care where we go
I don't care what we do
I don't care pretty baby
Just take me with U

I don't care if we spend the night at your mansion
I don't care if we spend the night on the town
All I want is 2 spend the night 2gether
All I want is 2 spend the night in your arms

2 be around U is so-oh right
U're sheer perfection (Thank U)
Drive me crazy, drive me all night
Just don't break up the connection

CHORUS {x2}

Just take me with U
Won't U take me with U?
Honey, take me with U

Where do U come from?
New Orleans
What are U doing here?
I heard about the club, and thought I'd try my luck
You're in the business?
Well... I'm a Singer
Oh
1st Avenue is really famous
A lot of bands make it after playing there
It must be exciting
Is that what turns you on?
What do you mean?
Making It
It would be nice 4 a change
It's all I dream about
And U?
What do U dream about?

She wears a long fur coat of mink
Even in the summer time
Everybody knows from the coy little wink
The girl's got a lot on her mind

She's got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown Mercedes sedan
What I think this girl,
She really wants is to be in love with a man

CHORUS
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants to lead the Glamorous Life
But without love it ain't much

She saw him standing in the section marked
If you have to ask you can't afford it lingerie
She threw him bread and said make me scream
In the dark what could he say

Boys with small talk and small minds
Really don't impress me in bed
She said I need a man's man baby
Diamonds and furs
Love would only conquer my head

repeat CHORUS

They made haste in the brown sedan
They drove to 55 Secret street
They made love and by the seventh wave
She knew she had a problem
She thought real love is real scary
Money only pays the rent
Love is forever that's all your life
Love is heaven sent it's glamorous

G-Spot
Along with "Sex Shooter" and "Vibrator", "G-Spot" was intended for a second Vanity 6 album. The song is mentioned in, and segues from "Vibrator". Vocals are by Prince on this early version, which is less polished than what ended up on Jill Jones album. The lyrics are practically the same, although at the end Prince imitates James Brown, even calling out the name of Brown's sax player, Maceo Parker, whom Prince would work with years later. The song may have been intended for Purple Rain at one point.

G-Spot

"F" is 4 frustration
I'm looking 4 what isn't really there
"I" is instigation
I'm listening 2 the voice beneath my hair
"N" is 4 the naked body
And 4 what my naked eye can see

CHORUS:
G-spot, G-spot
Where, oh where can U be?

"A" is 4 America
And 4 the things U read in magazines
"L" is 4 location
I am a clock, the time is 9:15
"L" is 4 the lust we share
We want 2 know the infamous pleasure

CHORUS

"Y" is 4 my yearnin'
Burnin' into mystery

CHORUS

G-spot
Maceo, eh
Blow your horn, uh
I don't want no trash
Gimme some of that popcorn

Oh, Lord!

All Day, All Night
Prince's 26th birthday was celibrated with a gig at First Avenue that showcased new material. "All Day, All Night", along with "Roadhouse Garden" and "Our Destiny" were all premeired at this performance. The 3 songs were later worked on in the studio and "All Day, All Night" was eventually given to Jill Jones for her 1987 self-titled album. Her album version is very close to Prince and the Revolution's live take.

All Day, All Night
{French spoken}

Ich liebe dich, ich liebe dich {"I love you, I love you" in German}

Oh, what a beautiful morning
Oh, what a beautiful ass
Darling, this is my final plea 4 love
Take me now or witness the slow and horrible death of your purple fox
My time is running out
I can wait no longer
I watch as U make love 2 others
Disgusting as it seems, it intoxicates me
U might say that I'm amused 2 the point
Where my blood increases, my heartbeat accelerates
And my mouth waters uncontrollably
4 I know that no man will ever love U like your purple fox
No man will ever kiss U in this lifetime or the next
The way U and I kiss 2night
Take me now as I am
4 I am becoming confused 2 what I stand 4 and desire
Tell me, darling, who I am, who I am, what I am, what am I?
What?

Oh, are these my lips
Or are they petals from some crazy flower?
Oh, are these my hips?
If they are, then they're some kind of powerful

CHORUS:
All day, all night
U can be my baby, I'll make U feel alright
All day, all night
U can be my baby, I'll make U feel alright

Oh, is this your mouth?
Am I swirling in some wet tornado?
Oh, U make me wanna shout
When I'm in your legs, I feel like Play-Doh

CHORUS

Woo, shockalaka
Shockalaka
Oh, is this your house?
Am I in an ocean of desire?
Oh, U make me wanna shout
When I'm in your love, I feel on fire (Ooh)

CHORUS

Aww, shockalaka
Shocka, sh, shockalaka

All day, uh all night, yeah
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
All day, (Lawd) all night (Shockalaka)
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
All day, (Lawd) all night (Funky in here)
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
All day, all night, yeah
U can be my baby, make U feel alright

Shockalaka {x2}
Start, don't stop, make love every night and all day
Everybody sing
Start, don't stop, make love every night and all day, hmmm
Start, don't stop, make love every night and all day
Shockalaka
Start, don't stop, make love every night and all day
Everybody say
All day, all night
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
All day, all night
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
All day

Shockalaka
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
Shockalaka
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
Yeah, shockalaka
U can be my baby, make U feel alright
Everybody say it now
U can be my baby, I'll make U feel alright (Yeah)
(Uh huh)

Instrumental version & vocal version different speeds
The instrumental version was heard in the 1st Avenue club scene where Morris Day was rapping the Chili Sauce 2 Apollonia

I liked how that song Possessed blended with the scene of Morris & the Kid:the Beautiful Ones trying to win Apollonia's heart. Perfect fit

Possessed

Oh yeah!

Something's the matter baby, I'm going insane
Something inside of me keeps talkin' 2 my brain
Why can't I stop this satanic lust?
I know I shouldn't hold U, but my body says I must

And I don't know what 2 do
Ooh, I'm possessed, yes, ooh
I'm stone crazy in love with U

Something's the matter baby, U're all I see
Your voice is all I hear beggin' 2 me
