No seriously, is this true? I'm curious. Haha if that was the case the site would be f*cked coz the weather in Scotland is really cold at the moment! Seriously though - we don't enjoy booting people off the site, it is usually a last resort for people who are just consistently abusing the site and the other people on it, and paying no regard to repeated moderator requests and warnings. There have been times when Ben has put restrictions on a user's account to limit the number of threads created etc - doing this is time consuming for us and we really only do it in special cases where we are trying to avoid having to boot someone off the site. To get your account deleted takes a bit of work - repeated infractions of the rules, multiple warnings from the moderators etc. We deal with it on a case by case basis. In times of old we were less organised and spent far too much time hand-holding troublesome individuals, trying to communicate, talk some sense into them, trying to help them out and avoid booting them off. It got to the stage where 3 or 4 users were taking up 99% of moderator time which is crazy. So we're more organised now, we have a system for keeping track of individuals' "strike list", history, and an auto-ban system. Only one user so far has had the honour of having her account deleted, and her entire IP address range permanently blocked for her ISP, university etc. It took a LOT of abuse to get to that stage. | |
