new Prince Fans

One thing I love about being a Prince fan is there is a lot of history there

A lot of depth and levels to the song history, people involved, albums tours
Proteges films

There are fans who were there from the beginning and others who came on at various albums
I'm saying all this in response to members who are impatient with new members or new members who are 'new' fans of Prince

We may have been fans and talked about discussed and compared notes for a long time about Prince history but new members or fans most likely didn't have the opportunity we had

Even I'm still learing especially since there was so much happening that wasn't available(lack of internet) (media exposure different in pre 90's) lot of history and background that didn't come to light until later.

I'm using theKing662 for example, Young guy who appreciates Prince music especially the earlier years and a few too many people jump all over him when he asks questions. I love it, I love his and others appreciation for those years and their curiosity. In a day and age when youth are exposed to so much clone music.

even old fans need some explanations sometimes....
I've been a fan since the beginning or nearly, but I stopped listenning his music during 7 or 8 years (approx 1995 - 2003, my ex husband hated Prince). So I have many questions too.

And that's the real pleasure I have, being part of this community!
People say I'm wearing heels because I'm short. I wear heels because the women like 'em.

He asks questions to know how much other people know. He already knows everything:

If people have a problem answering questions from the King662.
Then don't answer them.
I happen to think it's great that he's interested in real music by real musicians.
I wish more young people felt the same way.
To all the other orgers who can't stop attacking him because he asked a question you felt was answered ages ago. Bounce already, according to you we've covered every topic known to man on here and should just use the search engine.
Oh but look! You're still here and still bitter for some unknown reason to the rest of us.
King662, you cool in my book brother!

Yes, but can he hold on to that when school starts again and he's back into other things. Prince just might be a summertime hobby. You know it takes fortitude to remain a Prince fan because he can sometimes try our patience.

It is great to see someone quite young show the same kind of enthusiasm for Prince that I had when I was that age. Hell, Im excited when ANYONE becomes a new Prince fan. As long as they are respectful in how they come across with us, than I'm cool with it.

MyNameIsCally

I'm 18 & became a Prince fan at 17, but I have heard all his '80s albums, most of his '90s & a few of his '00s.

Even though I feel I may have missed out on the excitement of the release of a new album or some other new release by Prince, I feel the huge back catalogue makes up for it. To me it's like having a lifetime of Christmas presents in one Christmas without having to wait every year, or like winning the lottery & getting all the money in one payment as apposed to yearly installments. Even though it has cost me a fortume buying all these albums!

I do regret having missed out on all those great tours, I'd have love to have seen Sign o the Times or Lovesexy tours, but I wasn't born until '91 so there's nothing I can do about that! At least I got the Sign o the Times movie in Oxfam for 50p razz

My 18 year old friends snicker or shudder when I put some Prince on, and even leave the room when I put on some Sly & the Family Stone or Earth Wind & Fire! I really don't understand, but whatever. They can keep their Lady Gaga & their Jonas Brothers thanks, where's the headphones? I'll listen to some good music on my own. lol

hopefully the younger fans dont limit themselves to just prince. he opened my eyes to a lot of new artists that i wouldnt have found out about before.

its cool to see other people in my generation hopping on the bandwagon, i live in MN and my mom has always liked prince so i had some early exposure and was bound to catch on eventually. most kids dont have that purple seed implanted from the start.

It's not a matter of loyalty, tolerance and understanding. It's rather about realising what is required to be accepted by another (new) community, which means simply settling in and taking time to do so. You need it when you move to another country, you need it when you start a new job and you need it when you register on a fan community like The Org.

Every member should take their time to "lurk" - see how things are going on, how people communicate and how everything here "works". Plus, which doesn't only include The Org but actually the whole internet (if not world), before asking questions you should take advantage of all the information that's already out there.

Some orgers can say that every topic has been beaten to death and, you are right, they are still here, which means that there's still some room for information that hasn't been spread before. Still, that doesn't mean we shouldn't use the bloody simple "Search" button up there from time to time...

Enthusiasm - hell, yeah!
Absence of consideration - fuck, no!

That's the whole point. It has nothing to do with being a 'new' or an 'old' fan.

I don't know about the search button

I typed in Purple, to get the Purple topic and it said nothing matches your search do you want 2 narrow it, I don't know who well it works at times

And even then sometimes the topics are closed, you can't take part in the discussion

You have to use the Google search button in the right upper corner. The other one doesn't work properly.

I'm sure that if you want to continue discussing a closed topic you will get the majority of Orgers to join in if the topic is interesting and there is a point in re-discussing it. However, some topics have been closed for a reason.

The bottom line is if you or anybody on here feels a thread has nothing to offer you or is old news then just pass it by. No one is forcing anyone to post or reply to anything here. It free choice. I joined up and posted when I felt like it and if anyone should check me on something then it should be the moderators. This is thirsty for knowledge about Prince and stuff that happened before he was born. All you show him is how negative most of you can be because you were here first. Who cares? What do you want a biscuit? Get over yourselves and remember why you joined up in the first place for the music and the man behind the music. Stop picking on kids! It ain't cool!

overall young people are too lazy to use the search function to see if a question has been asked already. They want instant gratification and would rather piss people off by asking redunant questions rather than using the handy search function here or using Google. I think some people just spout off at the mouth to hear themselves talk chatterbox

So I guess overall that old people have too much time on their hands and just answer any post that gets their support hose in a twist. They want to belittle the youth rather than admit they're just old and cranky and should be taking their meds! I think some people just spout off at the mouth to hear themselves talk.

^ Indeed. I will be the first to admit that I am old and cranky so if you think you are insulting me, you're not. As far as spouting off, you're just repeating what I just said.
Us old folk do have too much time on our hand-time to work and take care of family instead of worrying about stupid questions about stuff that doesn't have any real bearing on their lives. You must be young to take such offense, "honest"Man 13. There's a life somewhere out there, I'm sure you'll find it. bored Oh yah, you DO have a life, acting as a defense attorney for the people who don't know how to use search functions.

I must say, that at 37 I've learned that no one can piss you off unless you want to be.

Think about how many posts people have clicked on KNOWING that they will not like it, just to gripe, tell the person to get over it or say it's been talked about before (and sometimes if u find the topic they are talking about it was a couple of years ago)

I've used the search engine to find concert/show posts I created and could not find it, I started on called Purple and I guess it was 3 or 4 pages in when I went to find it. I typed Purple in the search engine and it told me, not topic exists. go figure

We all choose what we want to click on, no one forces anyone
Anyone who doesn't like theKing66 posts or know your going get those questions yet they click it anyway, lack wisdom patience and selfcontrol

Every question on here has been asked before, all a person has to do is type it in the "google custom search box" but the newbies don't know that so they ask it again, some folks ought to lighten up on that beating a dead horse emoticon.
