PRINCES background vocal style HEY I LIKE RANDOM THREADS!!!
yo. i just noticed- and i have been listening to prince for awhile- princes background vocal techniques. and they pretty much follow the same patterns for pretty much every song. his style is more choral- but churchy with each voice competing to be heard the loudest. ( i see it in church, its quite hilarious) and he punches in with a random OOOOWHOAOOOWHOA after every few lines. or a loud UHHH!!! harmonized. sounds a bit crazy, but if you listen out for it you'll see it in almost every song. same things i noticed with the camille songs. almost all those camille songs ( or altered pitched songs) start with him doing an ear piercing vocal run EHHHHHUHHHHHAHAHHOOOWWEH! IM TIRED.

lol
sorry-gotta dissagree he is the best at harmonising with himself-the best there is i think you say he does the same thing every tune.....? no way-not a chance-his vocals are actually getting better-at 50 if you hear the chior competing to be heard-thats cuz on that track-thats what he wants you to hear-but vocally i have never felt he works to some kind of manual-its organic (and thats not a mis-spelling all you dirty girls

I'm of the opinion that its Prince's backing vocal arrangements that make even his worst songs worth listening to, particularly on a decent set of headphones.
And the observation that they "follow the same patterns" is absolute hogwash.

He got a few lil' styles...
That churchy style.... straight r&b backs.... My fav is when he gets operatic... like on 3-chains o gold...or the closing moments of "dance 4 me"

His background vocals r unmatched by anyone will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

But we all have our opinions. Prince can barely scream now a days let alone sing like he used to. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

He struggles do it. He's gotten older and of course it doesn't sound the same as when he was younger. Like when he does it live, it sounds awful sometimes. Can't compare his younger screams to his 40 and older screams. Some people think I'm kinda cute

I agree that Prince, along with Marvin Gaye are probably the best at harmonizing and doing layered vocal tracks. Some of my favorite uses of this include "Joy in Repetition", "Adore", "Insatiable" and "Thieves in the Temple".
