Pentacle

The crappy music, the phony lyrics? Honestly, this is one of the worst songs he ever recorded. (Then again, I'm one of the few true Jughead fans.)

It wasn't over looked... It was over DONE. It's just too dramatic for my liking razz

Another Lonely Christmas is definitely one of P's best. he puts so much emotion in2 it, and the music, while it can be considered overdramatic, overcomes me sometimes (in the good way).
Man, it's hard supporting a college education and a music collection. Better drop out of college!

I rarely play it even though I love the song. cool
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

It's a cool song, but so crazy melodramatic that it lacks authenticity. I just don't buy that he feels what he's singing. But, as melodrama goes, its fun.

Love the big, sweeping sound to it. It's the lyrics that sort of take me out of the song, but I do like it.

Back in the day (late 84-85) it definitely had airplay, particularly with WGCI in Chicago. Back then, P's stuff was definitely on heavy rotation...

it's a b-side and a christmas-themed song. it wouldn't have charted on the Hot 100 no matter how popular it was.

Is it true that someone told Prince a bunch of subjects/words and asked him as a little fun bet to make a song out of it and it was this song?

I think it would have worked because a lot of the music that he released back then was very melodramtatic. I think it would have served well in Purple Rain itself and not just as a B-side.

I think that's "La, La, La, Hee, Hee, Hee" you're referring to.

As others here, I agree. I think what makes it stand out as a potential hit is the 'Christmas single' potential.

Wait...is it on iTunes,,,is there any way we could bump it to the world's attention this Christmas???

One of his most underrated Bsides. The guitar work and drumming are excellent. thumbs up!

I found the song online! Obviously I am not allowed to say where but I am so happy. It brought back a lot of memories listening to it again after all these years...

The edited version is easy to find at any online retailer. It's the 12in version that's a bit hard to track down.

I hate when stations do that. lol
They do it with Wham! too.

Just cuz a song has the word Christmas in the title it doesn't make them Holiday Music.

The 12in of this song is jamtasic! This has always been one of my favorites and I use to listen to it year round. It sounds like this was a "band song" like Power Fantasic. Does anybody know the background on this recording?

So is that Bobby actually on the drums? eek I always wonder what songs he is actually playing on. This is a great song but one of the few that SHOULD be a B side. While I love the song, I don't know what album it would have worked on.

Yep. It doesn't garner as much attention as The Temptions' "Silent Night", but it does get a lot of urban ac radio play. You must remember during Christmas time, there are so many different versions of the same songs, so stations have to find obscure tracks like this to break the monotony.

Yes, it does (from a programmers point of view anyway). Sure, songs like "Another Lonely Christmas" and "Last Christmas" tell stories of what happened on Christmas. Therefore, making it a holiday song.
