Purple Rain - Remastered Vinyl Release

I can't see any mention of a remaster released on CD - but it's definitely being released on 180 gram vinyl, on July 6th...

Of course, it's fairly easy to make your own CD remaster, by ripping an old CD and tweaking the WAV files here and there. This is vinyl though - which is expensive and complicated to master and produce yourself.

I need this!!!

It's already out and has been for a while. I had it in my hands last weekend at the Record Town/FYE. The site says "Ships on or before", meaning if you order it today it'll go out within 48 hours at most. A friend had it a couple of months ago. He liked the remaster.

And tweaking WAV files is not the same as remastering.

Interesting... Since it was released only on Vinyl and cassette originally maybe Prince found a way to stop the release on CD.

Re-Master and Re-Release it when Prince has control of the Masters in 2018~

He only gets control one album at a time, not all of them. And it will expire on the date of the release. So even if 2018 is the year For You expires, if it doesn't expire until October, he'd have to wait the whole year before he gets control back. Then Prince in 2019, then Dirty Mind in 2020, etc etc. He'll be dead before he ever hits Chaos and Disorder.

Does anybody have this? Is there any indication of the album that this is a remaster?

Other folks have mentioned that it sounds good - comparable to the original pressings, but is not a remaster. I didn't buy it, but have looked at it. The cover art is pretty shoddy.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I was at Best Buy a few weeks ago and almost bought the Abbey Road LP, brand new. My girlfriend inspected it and she said it wasn't really "original" and the artwork was also shoddy. It looked like it had been scanned and reproduced, a little blurry.

I am hesitant to buy anything Prince-related in regards to older material, only because I don't know what is coming up and I don't want to waste any money. The CDs I have - volume aside - sound great.

Besides, I still have my pristine 2nd original Purple Rain LP - the one that was never played.

cool

Best Buy is where I saw the Purple Rain 180 Gram reissue. It absolutely looked like the artwork was just scanned from another vinyl jacket and the resulting moire patterns were blurred.

Prince has to OK remasters anyway, so it probably isn't going to happen anytime soon.

I've still got my PR copy too, as well as my wife's. She had every vinyl P album before we moved in together, so now I have 2 of each (as well as extra copies of most of the 12" and 7" singles and protege stuff). I was super anal with my vinyl, so all of mine are in excellent shape. Her records are a little less *ahem* cared for.

I have to make a decision as to what to do with all of that vinyl. There's a certain sentimentality that accompanies those platters, but I can't keep all this stuff forever.
