if u read prince innnerview he did in drum magg he stated how he always use the drum machine yet does a overplay wit real drums.its so hard 2 tell which iss which b/c he uses both on so many songs

I think it's easy to hear if it's Prince on the drums because he has this certain style of "funky" drum solo fills that almost changes the timing and then snaps back. Some may think of this as a flaw compared to Michael B or Blackwell, but Prince always brings it back. I'd say he was influenced by that "1 2 3 4, 5,6,7,8,9, 10" song off of Sesame Street.

Prince's drumming evolved from simplier in the pocket style to more complex John Blackwell influenced.
Listen to Prince's drumming on Glasscutter he adopted
a lot from John Blackwell style

Glasscutter is Prince on all instruments.
He is credited for playing everything and while Prince played under John's influence you can hear its not John

if u listeb 2 most innerviews by his band memebers they will tell u prince doesnt use them much 4 studio only live and he teaches them the parts 4 live shows. i really believe prince is confident enuff 2 do it himself cuz he was signed 2 his 1st contract as a solo artist not a band

That's cool banished...As I stated in my post, Cymone told this. He told me back in 95 when I was recording with A.C and Morris. That's how I got the info that I relayed here. I don't know how u got the info from Bobby. But Andre said that it was Bobby and NOT Prince. Now A.C said he was present when this all went down but who knows? I have no reason to doubt Bobby obviously BUT I have no reason to doubt Andre either. Hell, it could have been Big Bird on the verses and Oscar on the choruses for all I know. razz

Ok smile But when you read Musicology booklet, Prince is credited for playing drums on the most of tracks, but is said it's just computer drums..I'm really confused, because you can't tell the difference


It stands to be mentioned that those first four songs were also recorded together. Prince sat at the drums, with his little sheet of paper (notes), and played all four songs back to back on the drums. He then went and played bass on all four tracks, back to back. Then went back and played keyboards on all four tracks, back to back, etc etc.

You can tell what's the Linn and what isn't on his songs. He's so known for detuning the drums here and there, some more than others, that it's noticeable which songs are live and which are not. I would imagine his first three albums were all live drums as well. "Tambourine" stands out as a live drum track too.
