Prince was mentioned on today show 7/22

smile for all of us NOT used to him being mentioned ...

i found it funny today - as they were talking about M J and the 02 shows - the guy covering the MJ investigation mentioned that MJ was obsessed with beating Prince - they showed a quick snippet - as they were saying Prince sold out 21 nights and MJ had sold out 50 ... they then mentioned some of the odd requests MJ had - apparently he wanted to be in the Guiness book of records after the 50 dates ... neutral neutral confused

What an asshole, He's was like a spoilt brat, paying whatever price is took to be 'successful' he paid the ultimate price in the end though.. Prince doesn't even care that he should be in the Guinness Book for the 21 nights!

sorry to all the MJ fans, BUT THIS IS A PRINCE FORUM AFTER ALL.

I'm just getting pissed off at all the comparisons, Prince was and IS the best.

END OF.

not surprising.

Sometimes i think thats all MJ is...an arrogant, walking statistic. Thriller got to his head and that's all he wanted to do, top it and get more statistics. He was never about the real stuff deep down.

You don't go to a "press conference" and have KING OF POP in huge letters on your platform and on a screen...wtf!? Dont get me started on the video.

Lesson to be learned, dont challenge Prince, you won't win biggrin

On the other hand, this could be made up! razz

As soon as he died, my cousin said to me, "I wonder if he felt like he had to try and outdo Prince, being as he thought of himself as the King".....

It's certainly plausible.....Michael always saw Prince as his rival in some ways whereas Prince never gave a fuck and just did what he wanted to do.

I saw that report this morning while eating breakfast and when I saw and heard the reporter say Prince's name I was shocked. Some people here had sad that they had believed that MJ wanted to beat Prince's record and I kinda thought so too. Looks like we were right after all.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Thanks, this proves what I felt all along. I couldn't stand MJ for this. I thought it was downright tacky to sell tickets for 50 shows that he knew damn well he couldn't do. He only wanted the money and his name in the world record book. Also, his fans are no different. I was on another message board and this MJ fan was trying to argue me to the ground that Prince really didn't do 21 shows at the 02 arena and how MJ sold out tickets for 50 shows. Then, she wrote that even if he did do 21 shows MJ still sold out for 50. I kept wondering why she felt the need to elevate MJ at the expense of putting down Prince. I could care less about stats all I wanted to do was to set the record straight regarding Prince.
Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

We all suspected this, but I hadn't heard it mentioned by anyone before. I'm wondering if MJ not being buried yet has anything to do with him wanting to finally be "funkier" than Prince.

oh lord ....don't think for a minute that Prince doesn't have the same quiet competitive spirit.

If anything it keeps one working harder as it stands today Prince doesn't have to
work as hard as he did years before, he has no one to feed off such as The Time or MJ, the last time he put someone in their place musically was Justin Timberlake in terms of musical competition.

You're silly if you think they can even be compared!! Two different things musically altogether. I love them both just the same for entirely different reasons. This isn't a good time or place to disrespect Michael, so STOP, you look heartless and ignorant.

Damn. falloff

I really don't care what MJ thought about Prince or his competitive spirit towards him. They both are solid artists with a fan base that's just as solid. they may have been friends,(both of his sons are named Prince Michael) who the hell knows? shrug

Either way, Nothing MJ could ever do would effect Prince's status and vice versa.

This is silly they are both masters at their work ....and at this point whether or not Michael set out to do 10 shows to get back in the groove of things or 50 in order to set a goal for himself or pay bills will never be known.

back to the thread it's nice for Prince to be mentioned for his 21 nights at the O2 arena.

This doesn't surprise me even in the slightest! I mean when you look at all the ground that Prince broke and the things he has done. MJ to a large degree was always following Prince in some way or another.

Prince sold out 02 for 21 nights. Who doesn't want to beat that? Now from what I understand MJ wanted to do just 10 nights but his handlers insisted that he out do Prince. MJ did feel he could pull that off because he wasn't up to that physically.

Well we all know what happend from there. The money grubbers got to Michael and pushed him for more dates. So while the love for Michael was there for him to do more than 21 dates. The facts still remain that he obviously couldn't do it.

Advantage Prince.

The kudos go to Prince for selling out 21 nights at the same venue (without any cancellations) and also performing a series of aftershows. Not only that, but performing LIVE with real singing, guitar, and piano. Reports had him described as "in top form".

Prince broke records with 21 nights, so it was really up to MJ to try to beam him. Did MJ win? He never performed even one show, had cancellations already (while he was still alive) and all that money has to be refunded. Add to that the fact that it would've been a mostly lipsynced show ...

Advantage Prince.

yeh, I saw P mentioned, and it said that MJ was obcessed with P.

From what I gather, MJ only wanted to do 10 shows. This says that he was not so concerned with outdoing P.

The concert management pushed him to do 50 shows, all of which sold out.

I would bet P could sell out 50, if he were crazy enough to want to.
