I am still not convinced Prince is a JW.

Until I see something posted on NPGMC, or a press conference confirming it, I am still not convinced Prince is a practicing JW. Sure, there may be references to it in TRC and ONA Live, but I think that it's probably because he is studying the religion (not neccessarily strictly practicing it!). Just like there were all those alchemy references in the GOLD / prince days, Prince never officially became an Alchemist.

The final track of ONA Live proves he is still preaching what he has been preaching since forever: LOVE is GOD, GOD is LOVE - nothing more, nothing less. I think he enjoys studying religions because, as in Anna Stesia, we should "champion our similarities, not our differences" because essentially all religions preach the same thing - to be good to yourself and others. Feel free to add your two cents worth!

It's all just a big misunderstanding. I mentioned in an other thread few weeks ago that because of him obviously getting a bit balder he is more into getting a Jehova's Wigness.

But nobody listens. You can't stop a running train.

It's obvious that he does like a lot of their ideas and is obviously influenced by the Bible studies with LG and Brown Mark not to mention that I keep hearing Mani's a JW as well. So even though me might not be a JW 100% he sure walks and talks like one.

Either way, I don't see what the big deal is. Either you agree with his views or you don't. Same with the music, who cares if it's rock, funk, soul or jazz? Who cares if he's catholic, JW, muslim or satanist? Do you like what he's saying, do you like what he's playing? Yes or no, that's all that matters.

In the new calender for 2003 Prince shows a bible with his name on it that says New World Translation. So,he's reading it but you are right maybe he is just checking it out and not Converted as a JW. Whatever, cause he's making Great Music!

Neither am I. He recently opened a Xmas gift on stage (a box of chocolates). Then passed it out to the audience. JW's don't believe in Xmas at all. I think he's studying it. Besides he's getting a lot of attention from all of it. I never ever heard him say it. People just assume that he is. That's Prince. He let people assume a lot of things about him that are not necessary true. I still don't believe he's married.

I'm not sure what it takes to be an 'official' member of a religion. He is publicly advocating studying and living by the teachings of the Jehova's Witnesses. In my mind, that makes him a Jehova's Witness.

WHY am I responding to this. . .why. . .

I'm kinda with you on this one, Katrina. I think what happens is that he simply does not react to any criticisms/attacks--not so much 'letting people assume' rather 'turning the other cheek'.

I admire his strength in this, given he gets criticised all the time in writing. Think about this--you go to any discussion board/forum on the Internet, and virtually any time anyone gets criticised, they react by criticising back.

He simply lets his music/lyrics do the talking, and I think his restraint should be applauded. We could all learn from this ourselves.

actually it DOES matter to some of us.

i USED to be able to sing along with his stuff but now, even though the music is funkier than ever, i get to lines like 'ain't no room to disagree', or 'she in subjection to the man', or 'displaced bloodline, jailbait,' etc. like, the words to muse to the pharaoh simply stop me in my tracks. can't sing THAT

and when i hear him singing lyrics like that i find myself wondering what can my hero can be thinking??? to me the words exclude people like me from wherever prince is headed on his current trip. this interferes with my ability to enjoy the music.

yeah i know he has the right to display his personal vision but sometimes it gives me the creeps to listen to his lyrics these days

There are also several reports of Prince showing up at various Kingdom Hall's while on the tour which to me is another good sign that he is probably a JW.

If you don't believe he's married you're a fool because he referred to his wife several times during various soundchecks. He also wears a wedding ring. Sounds more like wishful thinking.

Also, for the record did he say the chocolate was a Christmas gift or did others?

It's the lyrics that ruin TRC for me. The music, however, was his best in years. It would've been much better had the album been a collection of instrumental pieces. As it is, i find it quite racist, sexist and just plain baffling.

You're right and I would add that he's making music in his park (without bothering anybody) and the rest is more than history to him...

You missed my point. I don't like the stuff either, but whether he's a JW, a muslim, buddhist or a cult leader doesn't matter. I disagree with the message and that's it. Would you feel better if he declared he's not a JW? i don't think so, right?

ok sorry. i did miss your point. as fgar as his music, i'd feel better if his lyrics made sense and were accessible to most of his audience, like they used to be. right now, i'm not digging his vibe because of the message that accompanies it.

whether or not this can be attributed to his link with the JWs is debatable, i guess. but i feel his lyrics and the JW belief system are related.

The race mentions on the rainbow children are NOT JW in nature.
The interferons mention is regarding eating meat. Not blood transfusions. Listen to "Silicon" aka "welcome to the slaughterhouse" it's defined quite clearly there.
If you are so offended and in disagreement with what he says then you are a hypocrite for supporting someone who is preaching what you can not even sing along with.

I know one thing, God himself would never ask Prince to stop recording/performing music. That's Prince's destiny, that's how God made him- and the Jehova's Witnesses will probably try to squash all that.

Andyf, very well-spoken. I believe people are either acting out of love or fear. Prince is based securely in love (of God, self and all of us) and is, therefore, able to stay centered and calmly continue doing his own thing in life. Criticism, judgement, hatred, etc. come from fear.
