New Stuff Live

Why doesn't Prince perform more of his new stuff live. It's brilliant. If you're in a small club perform the new stuff (it's mostly fams anyways, right?). Would love to see him perform a concert with mostly Lotusflower and Planet Earth material. Please ? wink Oh yeah and 3121 too!

I think Prince underestimates his fams. It's exactly what they want to hear.

No. I'm damn serious. Prince is still the baddest MF alive. I think Prince should drop the Hits and covers live (except Crimson) and perform concerts with mostly new material (LF, PE, 3121, and Musicology). If people want to hear Little Red Corvette or PR let them buy the albums. Nothing wrong with classics sprinkled in but mostly new stuff.

I think the Montreux shows are the biggest compromise any fan could ask for. He played hits, current material and unreleased songs and rarities. I think it was probably one of the most balanced set lists i've ever seen by him and it should've appealed to a lot of his fanbase.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It certainly appealed to me. Those shows are great.

He doesn't like the music either. Think about the live shows he's done for the past 10 years, the setlist has been mainly of older material. Prior to that he would always play the majority of the album material he was promoting.

I am sure that there is something to this. In the 80s his concert really promoted the "new" album at the time. But of course at these concerts most of the audience was in their teens and twenties. Now they are in their thirties and fourties, if not fifties... So you got to revisit that old stuff for memorablia's sake... cool

yes indeed. i love those shows. if he would extend them with just half
a dozen or so more songs, you'd have a great show to take on the road.

2 more 'hits', 2 more fan fav album tracks, 1 more oddity from an album
by a protege and 1 more unreleased/rerecorded track.

where do i put my money? drool

what i also love about these shows is that he plays whole songs and not
just 1 verse or 1 chorus.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I agree with you completely. I will say that I hope that in the future, there is more emphasis on the new stuff too. They deserve to have their day in the sun.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Well he did play mainly new stuff in 2002 for the ONA tour and that was within the last 10 years so you are wrong with that timeframe. He knows whats going to bring folks to the shows. I'm sure he's aware of the fact that a lot of people don't know that a new CD is out so he has no other choice but to play a lot of the old stuff. That doesn't mean he doesn't like it or else why would he release it? Sounds silly to me.

Okay I was being a little sarcastic when I said he didn't like the music either, but as far as the ONA tour...checks out the setlists. 5 or 6 songs from TRC is hardly "mainly new stuff" considering the shows usually lasted around 2 1/2 hours. Forget 10 years, you might as well consider the Jam of the Year (3 or 4 songs from 36???) and New Power Soul tours too, those shows had even less new material than the ONA tour. When you consider the tours prior to those when mainly new material was the majority of the show, one has to think that he is not as into the new music as he once was.
