I posted something similar on the Lotus board, but I think it's relevant here as well...

Prince has hundreds/thousands of unreleased videos, songs... all sitting there in the vault. Many think his best work is unreleased. My question is, after being "freed" from Warner in 1996, changing his name back to Prince in 2000, why hasn't more of this work seen the light of day?

In the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona (by another genius, Woody Allen), the main character's father is a poet who refuses to publish his poems because he "hates people so he denies them his best work." Do you think Prince hates people, and society as a whole (and even us, his fans) so he denies us what we want?

No, I honestly don't think he hates his fans..

He just wants us to pay for it .....again.
I'm not doing that. Thank goodness for my collection and buying or "finding" it the first time and having the smarts to hold on to it.
If only i could share with my family here on the org.

There's no question in my mind that he's the most gifted musician of our time but having said that if the stuff in his vault was top notch he would have released it or rerecorded it.

Or maybe he feels his fans has heard it before by way of Bootlegs, he doesnt Hate his Fans, just fan made sites.

He releases what he wants when he wants. He's a control freak about his art. Always has been, always will be.

Even so, he releases a ton of stuff, and prince fans are ridiculously spoiled and always want more. Always have, always will.

Of course he does.

Fans are insane.

He doesn't love his fans, to be sure. He knows they want him to tour, but he doesn't care.
