I was listening to it somewhat regularly a few months ago.

It never gets old folks. I can listen to it at any time, any place. It rarely gets boring. It still makes me close my eyes and groove to the soulful singing and powerful drum beat. It still moves my heart and drives my soul. The live versions, on the other hand I usually avoid. I prefer the original and always will. Who still gets juiced by PR? Anyone bored by it and why?

Thanks. kiss.

I love the way you describe how it makes you feel... but a lot of the live versions are amazing too, Coachella just recently for instance is fantastic, I think!! I don't often 'choose' to play it, but when it comes on by accident or as part of a playlist it makes me feel exactly as you describe, and moves me to tears often. If you're bored with Purple Rain you're bored with life! wink

not bored with life ..but bored of the song big grin
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I will never get tired of that song. It doesn't matter whether it's the album version or a different live configuration, I will always love it.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I absolutely love the song, but just like Let's Go Crazy and Kiss he never performs it the same. In some ways that a plus and a negative. biggrin

This morning I was watching the performance of it at the American Music Awards and loving every minute of it. Classic track and it's never going out of style!
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Some songs just don't date and this is one of them.
I can still listen to it - just not on repeat.

It's a great song but the drums sound very dated. The drums bother me. They subtract some soul from a very soulful song.

And that is why I rarely listen to it these days.

That song is perfect

uh oh the soul hugh
it's a rock ballad, all class anthem song
Too much drum on a song like this and it messes it up
I love drums and percussion and soloing but too much can be over powering
Purple Rain drumming is just right

I know we have heard Purple Rain so many times, ad nauseam to some, but it's one of Prince's best works. I think we forget how good this song is. I get lost in that guitar solo every time I hear it and some days I need that escape. The mixture of venerability and confidence in the lyrics, the vocals, the music and lastly the guitar solo is why this song hijacks my senses from chord one. Matter of fact I'm prompted to play it right now.

I never really listen to any purple rain (the album) songs for a long time., including purple rain the song.i dont know why..it doesnt interest me, i think it is to tied to an specific emotion for me personally (the purple rain songs) that i cant relate to anymore...i do like to listen to older albums like dirty mind, the gold experience, come and a lot of b-sides like feel u up, love u in me for instance...but mainly i enjoy the newer stuff of this decade actually....
