Does everyone love prince untill they meet him

Three infamous examples are the stories told by Howard stern Justin timberlake and of course Kevin smith. Previous to meeting him these three were huge fans and in Howard sterns case he has been a great prince supporter for years comparing his guitar prowess to the best in history. But once meeting prince in person they now hate him and think he's a massive asshole.

Howard Stern still loves Prince, he just loves to crack jokes about him.
Justin Timberlake and Prince are real cool with each other. The bringing sexy back/sexy never left was just publicity. Timberlake has accepted awards for Prince in his absence. Kevin Smith just thinks that Prince is really eccentric but they are still cool.

Trent Reznor sort of 'met' Prince once.
Prince passed him in the hall and didn't even look at Trent.
Trent slagged Prince as being highly unprofessional (in not so many words lol )

Here's what Trent has recently said about Prince: http://www.spin.com/artic...ezer-tears

Speaking of Kevin Smith: Where did Kevin talk about his Paisley Park experience. I picked up a "An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Even Harder" DVD for $3 at Big Lots the other day. I wondered if the Prince thing was on it.

IT did it twice, but I can't remember when.

Both times, he was asked by members in the audience.
Both times, his descriptions were absolutely hilarious.

Apparently Prince tried to get him with a gag order, but Kevin had never signed a confidentiality statement. lol

Yeah, I've seen the video somewhere. I just wondered if it was on the DVD I picked up. I bought 5 DVDs yesterday so I have a lot to filter through.

No you're wrong about stern. I've listened to Howard regularly for 15 years and admired his honesty about the song purple rain and his stance that p was just as good a guitarist if not better than Hendrix or Santana. Stern raved about the hall of fame and superbowl performance but since his encounter with p in that hotel room 21 nights show he doesn't wax about p anymore. He respects him a great deal still but doesn't like him.

As for Kevin smith while he was real subtle and clever in the digs he included in his stories it was obvious that it went beyond eccentricity and he thought prince was either crazy or a jerk.It seems prince always disappoints in person.

Pretty soon they will all be kissing his ass because their tiny little brains won't be able to cope and come up with new stuff so when P gets his masters they will all run to him asking him if they can use his work and I hope he flipped off

Howard stern along with 40 or 50 guests were invited to an intimate show in a hotel room to promote the 21 nights book in new York city.Prince wanted to perform the show at least in the beginning in complete darkness to in his words make it more special and when stern started complaining p was apparently an asshole about it.Stern then abruptly left the show and has been calling Prince a jerkoff on his sattelite radio show ever since.

I don't know if he was at the 1st, 2nd or both shows but I was at both shows and Howard was flat-out lying. The place filled about 200 people I think. The 1st show was NOT in the dark at all. They did have to adjust the lights in the very beginning of the 1st show but once they did, it was fine. There were more problems with sound than with lighting. The 2nd show, the lights were much dimmer but you could see the band clearly. I was in the front row of the place and I didn't hear anyone yell out in displeasure about anything that night. Howard was talking straight out of his ass on that one, period.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Howard is a bullshit artist that obviously stirs things up to kil 4 and a half hours but he usually doesn't make things up out of thin air.I'll take your word for it though.

These are supposed to be Jt response to prince in a song:

Now if sexy never left
then why is everybody on my s**t
Don't hate on me just because
you didn't come up with it
So if you see us in the club
go on and walk the other way
Cause our run will never be over
not at least until we say
"Sisters and brothers in the purple underground, find peace of mind in the pop sound!"

Are you referring to when he pretended to be short when accepting an award cause Prince wasn't there? That didn't strike me as something Prince would be cool with.

I can guess, but how did Howard describe his encounter with Prince? I never heard about it. Thanks for any info. (edit: just saw the 3121 show description above, if that was what Howard was referring to...who knows)

And by the way, I've met him twice and still love his music...I've never been infatuated with the man himself, because I really don't know him, none of us do. But he was very sweet, polite, and personable.

my god I haven't seen a thread with people talking out of their ass as much as this one. Howard Stern has not met Prince unless it was very recent and I missed it on the air.

No one is talking out of anything but knowlodge. Howard stern is good freinds with the woman that created the 21 nights book. She has a French sounding name I can't recall it right now. That is why he was invited to the NYC show and after listening to stern since the mid 90s i can tell when it's shtick and when he's genuinely angry and he was after that hotel room show.

Pretty sure the main story was on the first "Evening With Kevin Smith" DVD although he does reference back to it on the second one.
