ROOTS and Prince I picked up the 30th anniversary of ROOTS on DVD (at Big Lots for a ridiculously low price of $6.) I spent the past 2 days watching it all.
I noticed that William Blinn did a LOT of the screen play (except the last hour I believe). I also noticed that Ren Woods was in the film. Just for those who don't know, she is the one who had the Azz Izz album, that had a Prince song on it for a hot second. She played Fanta, who was Kunta Kinte's love interest, and both were sold into slavery. I don't think I've ever seen the whole mini series all the way through. I remember watching huge parts of it as a kid, but not all of it. I always appreciated it, but knew I should watch it in full sometime. Finding it at Big Lots was a score for me. (I also picked up that An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Even Harder, and Capote, and the series God The Devil & Bob.) It was great watching the whole series. I never knew that much N word was in it. Good heavens. I understand why they did it, but I just cannot imagine living in a world where that word is so easily used, like saying "Hello".

i just wanted to add that ren woods was one of the muses in XANADU.
i don't know what this has to do with prince, other than the fact that there is a Xanadu/Prince connection as well. and, i guess, a Xanadu/Roots connection.
