The Emancipation Challenge

So many orgers say that Emancipation would have worked better as one cd. Here's your mission: Create the cd you feel Prince should have released from the tracks on Emancipation. Since Prince only put 12 on each cd you have 12 slots only to fill. Have at it!
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I like it as a 3-disc set.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

You hit em hard to open w/ Right Back Here in My Arms. ...Keep em grooving to Sleep Around followed by Style, and White Mansion.

...I need some energy ...In this Bed I Scream.

...Somebody's Somebody is such a good song it needs to be up here somewhere. Emale brings back that mid-tempo funk.

Segue: The Plan

Songs I assume are directed toward Mayte come next. Curious Child, Dreamin' About U, and The Holy River.

I would close with The Love We Make.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

I personally think the album should have been 3 individual CDs released 4 months apart - thus 3 over a 12 month period, allowing each to have its moment in the spotlight and get some singles off it that reflected each disc the best.

I agree with this.

When I get a lot of music at one time I can never really get into it as there doesn't seem time to absorb it. There's always something new coming along so by the time I started to get into things, along came Crystal Ball. With all the music there it really was Rave that I ended up getting into. And that's saying alot lol

Staggering the releases would probably have made me appreciate it more. Although a lot of it is drivel smile

This just made me realise somthing. Emancipation is the first album I didn't get to know all the lyrics by heart and funnily enough I haven't with any other album of P's since. Interesting....
[Edited 7/26/09 3:10am]

Swa, how would you have released the singles if you'd been calling the shots?

There were some good tunes on the disc, but it all sounded a bit plastic. I thought 'emancipation'would sound raw.

1. Slave
2. Jam of the year
3. Right back here in my arms
4. Somebody's somebody
5. Dreamin' about you
6. The Holy river
7. Let's have a baby
8. Mr happy
9. Face Down
10. My Computer
11. Soul sanctuary
12. The love we make

A double album would have been cool

Ditch the following:

1. Betcha by golly wow!
2. Courtin Time
3. Damned if i do
4. I can't make you love me
5. One of us
6. The human body
7. the plan
8. da da da
9. in this bed i scream
10. we gets up
11. sleep around
12. sex in the summer
Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

dysfunk

I took into account the singles which were released from the album so by default they are included. I worked the track configuration around them using in my opinion the 4 strongest songs from each disc.

1. Jam Of The Year
2. Right Back Here In My Arms
3. Somebody's Somebody
4. Betcha By Golly Wow!
5. Soul Sanctuary
6. The Holy River
7. Saviour
8. Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife
9. Slave
10. New World
11. Face Down
12. Emancipation

Funny enough, my itunes playlist comes to exactly 1 hour. biggrin

I like this idea but would have stuck an outtake on each single along with a remix (even instrumental only) and an album track. I miss singles sad

I'm just chiming in here on the fact that as much bashing Prince gets for his rapping I'm seeing "Face Down" on a lot of these lists. Very interesting and contradictory to what a lot of orgers think is good Prince music.
