Prince & Mayte: Wha' Happened? I was living in Japan & didn't have an internet connection when Prince & Mayte split so I missed out on all the rumour, fact, gossip and talk. Does anybody know what happened? Solid facts and wild speculation welcome.

Also: what post-Mayte songs are generally considered to be about her or the break-up? Mayte is a very sweet girl but it didn't work out between them and they broke up in 1999. Prince was married to Manuela after that. | |

I could see it coming...having been through something similar...complete crush on Prince, she genuinely loved him, older guy etc...and the relationship was heaven...for a while...ahhh, but she wasn't fully 'grown'...too young...inexperienced...and all young women change...loss of their child could have contributed greatly...that is traumatic...and Prince would have been a reminder of that... although Prince is a rude boy / bad boy in his own way, despite his heels / clothes / make up...it's no surprise she went with this real 'bad boy' Tommy Lee...a more of a 'typical' kind of guy...predictable. I'd be guessing about 'post Mayte' songs...I always thought 'Had U' was obviously about her...sigh...(love that song). Can anyone confirm she didn't cheat on Prince though? The general consensus is that 'Had U' is about Warners. Also it isn't a post-Mayte song, C&D is from 1996. It's also general consensus that 'I Love U, But I Don't Trust You Anymore' is about Mayte, and in general Rave is a bit of a break up album (Man O' War, Greatest Romance), and also that what's her face, the second wife, was on the scene before the divorce, so it wasn't exactly all one sided. | |
