I thought that the dissolution of Prince's wedding vows with Mayte was a very "Prince" moment. Not a divorce - they were breaking what they said were "man's" laws and choosing to be married only in God's eyes instead.

Weird.

Sorry you didn't get the beauty or message of the Lovesexy cover, but it was amazing when it came out and still amazing today. It's a work of art. Not just Prince showing us his nether regions. It was and is a statement of transformation, beauty, and emancipation. The flowers symbolize a rebirth as he bravely and brazenly shows you his male and female sides. If you can't hear any of that on the album, then it is simply your loss.

Lovesexy is in my Top 3 favorite albums.
Who's questioning the integrity of the album? Or the cover even?

If you weren't a Prince fan you were not looking at that album cover as some deep artistic meaning. I'm sorry but it was just a girly nekkid dude on a flower to most other folk.

That's what I'm talking about.

That's like saying you can't go to an art museum and see paintings as anything more than a splatter of lines and colors, or the sculpture of "David" as anything more than some "nekkid dude". Every artist has a plan or idea behind any work of art when they compose it, regardless of how you see it. It simply says more about you than the composition, and I'm sorry that you aren't able to see it. Maybe stop watching pro wrestling or thinking about what "what other folk" think -whoever that is?- and spend some time listening to the album. It is quintessential Prince, at his boldest time in the 80's.

Weird.

Prince likes to put spin on many things he does to suit his actions. It's likely that they annulled the wedding so Mayte, someday, could get remarried. I'm only guessing she was raised Catholic, but it's common in Catholicism that you need to annul a wedding before you remarry, not simply divorce. I could be wrong.

I am and artist and I can tell you 2 things about art and artists:

1) Guess what? Some people do go to a museum and see art as nothing but splatters of lines and colors. No matter how much thought or meaning an artist puts into a piece, there will always be folk who just don't see that in it, as art is totally subjective.

2) Umm, no, every artist does NOT have a plan or idea (or meaning) behind every composition. Sometimes we create art just for the sake or creating artomfg Sometimes a piece of art has no deeper meaning to its maker than a pleasing visual composition. And we know that someone like you might come along and try to find the meaning of life in it. Even if we just sat down butt nekkid on a flower.

But that's cool, and you can if you wish, because like I said, art is totally subjective.

The thing is that I think some folk are so wrapped up in defending it, that they've not heard one thing I had to say about it. lol

I've yet to put it (or the album) down, in fact I mentioned them to be favorites of mine. shrug
