So Far So Pleased

So, could he have possibly turned Gwen's voice down any lower and still called it a duet? confused

I like the song I just wish she was more "present" and less background-y in it.
I've never really considered "Take Me With U" a duet either. shrug

I don't think So Far SO Pleased was supposed to be a duet. It was just featuring Gwen. She was supposed so be in the backround like Wendy and Lisa vocals were.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I was wondering about that but couldn't look it up on the actual cd book (all cd's put away since I use itunes). But a bunch of places online including Wiki listed it as duet. shrug

That said, for my ears, W&L are way more audible on tracks than Gwen on that one. lol

She's like vocal icing on the song. Same goes for Sheryl Crow. Even Janet said she felt she was mixed a bit low on "Scream", and called Jimmy/Terry and MJ about it. Later versions, she was turned up a bit more.

But God forbid we turn down fucking Chuck D or something.

Imago

I was shocked how Prince could take someone's voice like Gwen Stefani's and bury it so low in the mix that it's barely even fit for backing vocals.

That's very hard to do with a grating, irritating, siren of a voice like Gwen's.

But it would have made the song more interesting to let her voice...erm... shine.

It certainly could have been a hit single.

but that's been a staple of his "duets" always with the xception of sheena easton. any other female's voice is buried in the mix "la la la means i love u" is supposed 2 feature chante moore but can u really hear her in the mix? same with kate bush on my computer
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
