Hi there, i contacted the festival's organisers to see if the rumours were true about a dvd of the two concerts being released. This was the response i got:

It is right that the concerts of Prince were filmed. The process of releasing a DVD is however quite long, so we do not know now if this concert will be on sale or not. Please subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates or visit www.montreuxjazzshop.com for a list of available DVDs.

Prince has video taped almost all of his live performances. It is very unlikely that he would choose to sell this one to the masses.

He'd better be, seeing as he played half the songs from the first gig again at the second show. That was kinda annoying after all the waiting around between shows..

I'm usually pretty negative on these things but I'd say there's a good chance of it coming out. The first show was quite different to usual, like it was meant to be a one-off.

And as he's such a moneygrabbing whore (bitter Lotu$fail member, moi? ), the fact that there were no covers of other people's songs is a positive sign too - no royalties to pay anyone if a DVD is released.

This wasn't just any old performance though. He specifically asked to play Montreux this year AND originally asked Claude Nobs to record it in 35mm (which turned out to be too expensive). So, I think he specifically wanted this for some type of mass release.

Out of all the awesome shows he's played recently I really hope this isn't the one he releases. A lot of the setlist doesn't seem like it would translate well to a live dvd.

look at what he released from the ONA tour in the end. that was
probably his best tour imo. incredible perfromances and some of
the best aftershows of his entire career.

and yet, he released a lukewarm, cut up cd set with a handfull
of nice performances and the aftershow disc is just horrible.

all prince live things are nice or great but considering what he
had to choose from, it's amazing that he released what he did.

the 21 Nights aftershow disc is the same all over again. it's a
nice collection but if you look at what he had to pick from and
what it could have been. damn. another waisted chance.

He did 2 90 minute shows and a few songs twice. Rumor and rumor only has it right now that the songs were done twice for a possible DVD release. Wait…what happened to that Coachella DVD? Well, we will see

CAn you tell me what is wrong with the ONA after show CD. I listen to this more than anything else out of that set and I have some boots from that tour and the performances are not any different or better.

there's 3 aftershows in a row that were so spectacularly good that they
come close to the brilliance of Small Club 87.

the show changed a lot when it hit europe and later on japan. in fact,
it only got better and better the longer it rolled on. he included a
few different and more obscure songchoices in the setlists and when he
hit the clubs after the main shows he (no, THEY) burnt the house down.

some of the soundchecks contain absolute gold prince material as well.

it's not that the material on the It Ain't Over or Indigo Nights albums
isn't good. it's prince and live he's always good.

the song choices are just odd. on the ONA tour he played jaw dropping
versions of Beautiful Strange, Empty Room, Something In The Water and
other ultracool stuff like a re-arranged Dolphin or Days of Wild etc,
etc etc.

and when he released that It Ain't Over disc it just left me feeling
like i was listening to a show with no drive or fun. it feels like a
collage. Joy In Repetition is fcuz out of this world but right after
that the whole thing sinks like a ton of bricks. the guest stars on
vocals are ok but it's prince's first ever aftershow on official cd
so please, more of prince and less of george and musique, no matter
how famous or good they might be. the songs they do suck as well, it's
not just their vocal contribution, i'll give them that.

prince is prince and he often gives others room to shine, just look
at the Sacrifice of Victor, that's like 2 prince songs during a whole
show, the rest is mavis, the steeles etc.

but i'm going way off topic here. he released what he did but it's a
pale version of what actually took place in 2001-2002.
