Batman Appreciation: 20th Anniversary 20 years ago the Batman soundtrack was released. I love this album! Vicki Waiting is a classic and Electric Chair is a perfect combo of pop/rock, not to mention that the videos were wild!!

Batman is an incredible collection of masterful work. I believe the album is completely underrated! It was a clever and creative way to demonstrate a different type of musicianship. The arrangement of “batdance” was like nothing we had heard on the radio before. Love it! Wake up!......Wake up!

I JUST brought this album up to my friend today. We were talking about old cars and our first cars. Mine (at age 21) was a 1969 Delta 88. It was HOT, and in near excellent shape. It was my grandpa's, and I got it when he died.
Anyway, the car still had the original AM radio in it. I had a great boombox that I put in the car. I put the speakers in the back floorboard, and the main part of the boombox on the console. (The front seat was one big seat, but there was still a hump in the floor board that I could sit the box on. I sat it on its back so I could turn it off and on, and even hit RECORD when I heard a song on the radio I wanted. (Old habits never die). This all happened in 1989, and Batman was out that summer. I LOVED when "Batdance" came on the radio. I'd blast it all the way home. Every time I think of the Batman album, I think of that car, the boom box, and a great summer of Prince music. Hell, I moved to Los Angeles in Jan of 1990 and there was still music coming off that album. I remember buying the single and sheet music to "The Arms of Orion" and learning it straight away.

'arms of orion' is the one wormy spot that i cut around on this otherwise perfectly sweet apple of an album. i love the spirit and energy of the batman soundtrack because it's so playful and dark and cartoonish and..."batmanny".
for me, i can always see tim burton visuals when i listen to this album.

The album that got me into Prince. I liked Batman comics so when the film came out I devoured everything to do with it including the funk of Prince!
I think I knew about 5 or 6 people that bought it aswell, which is a wierd thing when i think back. never happened since. maybe Diamonds and Pearls? Also bought The Badman Is Robbin' 12" by Hijack, because it had a Batman reference! ....

That was like the greatest thing in the world at the time. I'm a Batman fanatic and, at the time, a Prince fanatic. I listened to that album all summer long. Had the limited-edition tin and all of the 12 inch singles. Anyone riding with me knew they were going hear Batdance. Do U Lie?

I really like this album, although i agree it's several notches below his best work of the decade. The only song that I truly hate is Scandalous... just can't stand his vocals on that one.
I also really like 200 balloons and I wish it had been on the album. * * *

I also really like 200 balloons and I wish it had been on the album. I'd take "Scandalous" over "Insatiable" anyway. "Insatiable" is a poor copy cat of "Scandalous". "200 Balloons" was a prototype for "Batdance". I'm glad it was at least a B-side for "Batdance". I REALLY wish it was in the movie. They could have played "Trust" while the balloons were releasing the deadly gas.
