Best Prince book

I thought that I had read a similar post before, but searched to no avail.

I've ordered Possessed and Dancemusicsexromance, and I'm trying to figure out if there are any other books that I am missing as a relatively good read.

While the definition of 'good' might be up for debate, I'm interested in the opinions of my fellow Org'ers. Which other ones should I check out?

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

While I was looking for The Vault, I came across a list where I should have thought to check in the first place for P books. Thanks for the suggestion. Now it's all a matter of figuring out which ones aren't b.s.

"The Vault" is the best, but is really a reference book more than anything (although I've read huge sections of it).

I also own:
"Prince - a Documentary" by Per Nilsen (superb, but basically version 1 of "The Vault")

"Dancemusicsexromance - Prince: The First Decade" by Per Nilsen (excellent, but I wish there was a sequel)

"Posessed" by Alex Hahn (I thought it was excellent, but many people hate it)

"Prince - a Pop Life" by Dave Hill (very good, but it stops at around the time of "SOTT" / "Black")

I used to own:
"Prince - Imp of the Perverse" by Barney Hoskyns (very short and sketchy)

"The Year of the Prince" - author unknown (basically pictures and a few paragraphs, and was published in about 1984)

"Slave to the Rhythm" by Liz Jones (not great)

Thanks for the advice on Slave 2 The Rhythm, I was thinking about that one. I can't find a trace of The Vault for sale anywhere.

"PRINCE--THE LIFE AND TIMES".....
BARNES AND NOBLE HAS THIS ONE.....USUALLY APPROX $17.99 or less.
I got mine from BARNES AND NOBLE for $12.00
This book is over 200 pages and it really gives you some very cool insight into the world of PRINCE and all of his ALBUMS up until "PLANET EARTH." Lots of FULL COLOR PHOTO'S that have been seen and unseen. There are many stories about PRINCE in this book that I never knew about. Enjoy.....worth every DIME!!!

The Vault - Cant get it think its out of print

Dancemusicsexromance - The First decade, excellent and essential probably the best book - A+

Possessed by Alex Hahn - Also excellent, but a bit bitchy, stops in 2002 (Oh dear) - A-

Thief in the Temple by ????? - Very sketchy bio that came out in 2007, can't even remember who its by. Not very good - C

Prince a life in Music, Playlist history - Matthew Carcieri, its actually very good explains his life to a soundtrack of 4 playlists each of 12 or 13 songs, so basically Prince's life in 50 songs. Uses tabloid terms like Sultan of Sex B+

Prince a Pop life - Dave Hill probably the best book from the 80s, but as others had said a bit dated now B+

Slave to the Rythm - Liz Jones , late 90s book still quite good but a bit dated now, some good interviews B-

Prince an album history - Geoff Brown, not bad CD sized book that critiques the mans early works from For You up to Come, some good comments, evaluates track for track and includes lots of Dirty Mind era photos. C+

Prince, Imp of the perverse - Barney Hoskyns, another late 80s volume, not bad but includes some good photos C+

Prince a documentary by Per Nilsen, I have 2nd edition 1993, excellent bio with photos and lots of date, his 80s tours are covered in great detail, good track listing and discography (Earlier editions have bootlegs too) A-

Prince, by Steven Ivory - Ridculous cheap paper back aimed at Nouveaux fans a la Purple Rain, cheap gainy photos and very superficial discussion make this a camp curiosity from the time (1985 - very early) D-

The Best so far - Dance Music sex Romance by Per Nilsen
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Add

Prince- A thief in the temple (most recent I think and not very good - the author refers to the U2 guitarist Bono!

Prince - Purple Reign (still got it somewhere - came out in about 85, I think)

Oh, there's also a little book on the Sign O the Times album, Think the author's surname was Michelangelo. Pretty good.
