I think we are both singing from the same hym sheet!. My use of 'safe and inoffensive' is in the context of his music being totally non challenging & non inspiring to these ears.

That statement implies "you and your ears" should be the one to determine what we all get from Prince when it comes to a release.

Fair point and as stated merely my opionion. That said as a hardcore fan since '83 and having seen him 30+ times live I'd like to think that I have developed both a solid knowledge of his music over the years and an understanding of what made him great in the first place. My opions are always fair and based on the merit of whatever the latest project [BTW i love LF as a CD on its own BUT totally dislike the new version of 'In a large room..']. My argument is a very simple one, P has been blessed with a ridiculous amount of talent and I genuinely believe that he has become lazy in some [not all] of his music, lyrics etc. Little Richard totally summed it up in '88, 'A little bit of something beats a whole lotta nothin'! If peeps on here dig the new stuff as much as the 'classic' stuff then cool , me?- well I know he can do better, much better.

I want him to focus more on quality too. But I don't think you'll get much agreement among hardcore Prince fans on here that just loves almost everything he does.

I've never understood that, how can people love everything he does when even P admits to failings!. P rasied the bar so high and I don't see why I should or more to the point HE should lower his expectations.

The point is who gets to determine what is quality and what is not quality.
Fan or not I don't believe any of us is qualified to do that, myself included.
i don't love every track but I appreciate the effort into getting the music to me by Prince. He could be ambivalent about his recording and drop something every 4 or 5 years. He's not obligated to release anything anymore seeing as he has no record contract.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
