Amazing night! I was happy with the songs he chose to repeat. His vocals on all were incredible as was the performance of the band. Mr Hayes came past us in the crowd at the start of the first concert so I was surprised it took until the encore for him to join Prince on stage.

We didn't understand the system for attending second show and staff were unhelpful so we went back to our hotel but on wandering back to venue managed to arrive just in time to see him climb into car, then we went back upstairs to bar venue enjoyed the fireworks display.

View was not great as previously stated but I am short so used to watching a screen or straining for a glimpse.

Think the set could have been a little longer but, for me, they were incredible setlists so this is not a complaint. Worth every penny.

Harveya, Xenon and co-thank yo for the yellow stripe appeciation. It was me on the flight this afternoon! You should have said hi! Anyway-what a fantastic weekend? P-come back to London and play some long-ass sets for us.

I mean I knew this was going to be filmed, the organiser of Montreux told so in several interviews. So I feared he'd do two identic shows so they could mix one that would satisfy him. I'm glad he changed here and there, and that the feel of the second show was totaly different.

secondly think also of the peeps who went to only one concert, what if they missed out on all the songs, they could complain also. At least half of the room were solo-go-ers.

Indeed, prince interacted with the camera's not realy with the audience. He was indeed recording a dvd or whatever. On the other hand, besides the first two rows and some big dutchmen (sorry I'm not that tall and I am alwaya behind some high hollanders) nobody could see him and had to look at the screens to see his face and to follow his cue's. He did that he directed the crowd didn't he? so there was interaction after all?

And yes the price was high, to high for to short of time of music.
On the other hand, this is one of the most mondain places of Europe, can I say the world? It's not realy éy cup of tea, but did you see the prices here?
food: 30 euro for a single course, 75 euro for a menu
drinks. 4 euro for 50 cl of water
hotel. 150 - 250 euro (and much much more) for a room at a hotel 10 - 15 euro for breakfast

I didn't think the price was too high for the quality we got, and not for the exclusivity, I mean prince for 4000 people
I paid 100 euro for the police for 13500 people and the sound was realy bad (sportpaleis anyone?) and I paid 100 euro for U2 in a stadium, and what about Madonna 100 euro for a playbackshow for 60 000 people on a grassfield
I would saz that 150 euro is a bargain compaired to that.
I only would have wanted it quite a bit longer, but it wasn't.

And my last point, not to sound like a fam, trust me I'm not, but I'm not going to say what prince needs, I simply don't know, and I don't care. As long as he comes up with music and live performances that thrill me, I enjoy it.

If I would come up with some advise for Prince it would be the same advise as for you Udo: man enjoy life, get out there, enjoy people, get out of the golden palace, live!
It's short enough, but it's beautifull.

When u go to a PRINCE shows this big MONTREUX or LA 3showes in one nite- or 21 nites-London ect.You must know by now there will be Problems.There are to many new fans now-1st times.At these shows "FANS" like us are small fish is a BIG POND.

Some of y'all seem awfully certain that a dvd release is imminent, was there some official announcement that I missed? With Prince's track record it seems much more likely that a dvd will not be released. I think maybe we would all be better off keeping our expectations low.

*IF* the DVD will get released it will be edited, as usual.
I.e.: it will not just be the whole 1st show or the whole 2nd show.
Probably there will even be overdubs, embellishments, etc.
Thus the feel of a proper document of a show, which he has NEVER ever released before, will not be reached.

My 'complaints' were just that.
Those were not remarks about my enjoyment of the show.

I did like going to Montreux, despite the whacky hotelier in the south of Germany, despite my halfway bad night of sleep from friday into saturday.
We arrived in Montreux around 10:30, so there was plenty time to have a slight look around, check out the scene, the town, get somefood and swiss cash, etc.
The festival hall had a nice chill out room near the queue area (of which I have pictures). The whole queueuing process was not too bad, the security searching was not to thoroughly or intrusive so it was OK.

Then upstairs to the hall. Again queueing in front of the doors. waiting seats nearby, big screen with video.
Then run or rather walk into the hall itself. No seats on the floor, nice acoustic improvements on the ceiling, two HD video screens at the sides of the stage.

The first show -the main part- was perfect. No exaggeration, it was just that. The music was good, everything fitted, the crowd was quited when it needed to be that.
The encore was 'normal', not perfect, just good so still nice.

Then exit the hall, get some food, drink, fetch ticket, etc, rest a bit and queue for the 2nd show. Same process of entry...
More guitar-oriented songs at the beginning, you know the setlist.
Overall the feeling for the 2nd show was different. Less 'magic', yet still very much worth the effort of travelling there and enjoyable of course.

After the 2nd show, Claude Nobs took the stage to talk to the audience.
He mentioned that thes would be the only 2 Prince shows for 2009. (so for the rest of the year his hips will be operated on? What about the rumors then?)
