I think some of you think he is stupid because you continue to be shocked by his behavior when the man has said in interviews "that I can be mean" and "I am very competitive"

Did he not just say these things during the Tavis Smiley interview?

He is a very open and honest artist when it comes to his persona. How many times has he said listen to music if you want to know what I am about.

He has had some songs (releasehd and unreleashed) that included some vile and harsh lyrics.

He has managed to stay in the music game for over 30 years doing actually what he wants when he wants and screwing people over the whole time.

It is a ruthless industry and he is a surivor yet all of this seems to go over everyones head (LOL)

Sure he is a hypocrite ! The whole music industry is hyprocritical. First the music industry rips off the artist for years and now they are mad that the fans are ripping them off via the internet.

P grew up in this industry and it is foolish to expect him to be some sort of angel when the whole industry is screwed up.

I am not defending his actions but it does not look like dude is going to change and he is not doing anything he has not done before and W&L should know this better than anyone else yet they keep dealing with him anyway.

I didn't take it that way. I thought religious repression in general. I do think that people who stifle themselves because of religion are all kinds of pent up mess, including Prince.

Voicing our opinions does not equal surprise.
I personally am not surprised and I'd venture to say most of the folk on this thread aren't either. I think it's just a discussion (even if heated) on what we think about this particular possible turn of events. That's all.

From the tone of your initial posts I took you for sticking up for Prince's actions in this particular discussion, rather than not understanding why someone would be surprised, or your point on W&L should expect this type of thing from him. I think there were some crossed wires there. We actually seem to agree on a number of things but debating different angles.

Change is not forthcoming so get over it and move on. I am not defending P's action if he has a problem with W&L it would have made more sense to talk them about rather than send a cease and desist letter however, we don't know that he has not talked them before sending the letter.

I still stand by my first comments that W&L should know better by this time and they really should stop dealing with Prince altogether.

At least if they stopped dealing with him we could new topics on this message board.

Because I would hope the fan community would use some common sense.

I honestly think you have people who don't even care for Prince and haven't in a decade yet they still come to this board expecting things to be different when they could move on to a different artist.

More talk about the music and little more use of commonsense would be great and is desperatley needed on this board. I am just trying to bring it all to an end.

All the lawsuits Prince serves can't change the fact that Prince's music was better (in both quality, sales, and respectability) when Wendy and Lisa contributed. I think that's the real issue. (IMHO) Prince knows deep down that's the truth, and he can't fight it, change it, or admit it, so he does what he can do. He uses his money and lawyers to chase them away. It's actually a pretty cowardly move, but no longer surprising since he probably thinks he knows everything. Big deal, they shared some of their life experiences and true thoughts on "the man." Let them... by all accounts he never gave them proper credit during the era (using everyone's input and then putting "PRINCE" on the album) and certainly did not pay them well. Letting them call him a FANCY LESBIAN is a small price to pay for that.
