For all you guys attending the Montreaux Jazz Fest: please shout out "Billie Jean" to Prince so that he can do a cover. I am sure he will do a cover of one of MJ's songs anyway as a tribute.

Go join or start a MJ website, or at least post this crap on the MJ sticky!!

Princes arangment on the new version
of In a Large Room with no Light
is Amazing.
I'ts very inspired in its sound texture
and the sound is not overproduced.

early 1986 version have saxophone improvising
non stop and it distract you from
Prince too much so i have a feeling that
Prince added voice over finished jazz fusion instrumental.
this version improves so much and guitar solo is great Prince never played better.

I swear, if I EVER win the lottery, the first thing Im gonna do is pay the best thief in the world to break into Paisley Park and steal EVERYTHING in the vault. Maybe then we can get ultimate sound quality ORIGINAL versions of what used to be classic Prince songs before he fucked them up! Long live bootlegs!!!!!

I don't think it's the legitimising of the tune that's dampened the excitement, I think it's us that've got older and changed.

Plus, there's no way a remake could ever capture the excitement of the first time hearing the song. Same with everything else in life!

BTW I think it's a great remake! Really appreciate hearing it.

Are you serious? The "textures" that you speak so much of are the same over-used "jazz" textures P has always used. This new "arrangement" is very contrived and by the books. One of the things that made the original so great was its arrangement, especially compared to Prince's work at the time. The chaotic ending with the odd time signature (something P rarely does) combined with Eric's sax work made for one of the purest rock/jazz fusion moments that I have ever heard from P. Not to mention the great female back ground harmonies and the shouts of "life". This version DOES NOT even compare.

Thank-you, what people fail to realize is there are many people with varied music tastes and what essentially you love does not mean every one has to love it and vice versa. Also Prince is an artist and as such can release remixes of his music however he feels like it, your rants on here will not change anything.

Yep, I've gotten older. But whether young or old I will never agree with remaking your own songs and completely changing the "feel" of them. Tweaking unreleased songs is fine, but there is a reason why you record/arrange something a certain way in the beginning. It would be something else if the first version we got was a sparse demo, a shell of an idea. But it wasn't. It was a fully fleshed out, fully recorded song.

There are plenty of artists I dont like that others like, artists who I dont listen too but yet I can appreciate their art because I can tell they put their soul into, or because they seem genuine. Its not about "varied musical tastes" for me. Its about "inspired" vs. "contrived". Its about "through the motions" vs. "let me out-do myself". It's about "this shit sucks" vs. "thank you for making my day." Prince.....

THIS SHIT SUCKS!!!!! (Wow, that rant did change something. ME!)

This version of 'In a Large Room with no Light' is hopefully not what's forthcoming from Prince. Why does he always mess with a classic cut?,
Prince died long before MJ...sad to say that but from what I just heard its
the truth.

This track wasn't necessarily made for die hard fans..remember it isn't only fans that are attending the festival. What is wrong with remaking something that you did in a manner that may please others? Do you only perform the missionary position when making love, or, do you try new things? Get over the past...the future won't wait too long!

all imma say is that some o y'all live in the past too much. Whatever that song was is what it was. This is today and 2morrow may eveen have summin different. The old one was the old one. Apparently U already got it...U want it again? "I Wonder" is a great song, but if it were to appear again, I'd want a new one...not the one I already heard. I like W & L too..but they ain't god...Prince has and will make great music without them. BETTER music. As multi-dimensional as W & L are...they're still W & L and they still have their sound. I understand how Prince felt their stamp was infringing on his and how he might have felt he was relying on them too much. His career is based on it being HIS career/sound. One begins to loose their individuality with all that going on. Some think that's a good thing. Prince don't...his independence don't like it. U gotta take the good with the bad and the bad with the good, depending on your viewpoint...i suppose.

I guarantee the 'I Wonder" that you have heard is a demo. The original "No Light" that we have heard is not.

I do it missionary when I know that's what makes me and my baby....."Come! You should do that baby! No more will you cry." Change for change's sake is ridiculous. The fact that Prince is playing at a Jazz fest is funny to me anyway, because as much as he tries to be, he aint no Jazz musician. I like the past....I like the future. For P one of these things is not "like" the other one.

Valid point however, What's wrong with experimenting? Change to explore new realms of thought and experiences is cool and healthy. Do you drive the same way everyday?

i like 'em both. the original has more zest and immediacy to it, but i've never heard a copy of this song in any quality that is close to enjoyable to me, so if i'm not in a super-fammy mood, it sounds like a bunch of muddy banging and clanging to me.

this new version is a sterilized, vanilla, jazz-lite take with much of the original's zing scrubbed away, but something of the song's energy is still there, and the sophistication of the song seems to come out just a little bit more in this version. AND it's a crystal clear "legit" track (and YES, i KNOW it's not as clear as it could be), so i can finally listen to this melody without the muddy ears issue. so there's that. shrug
