seriously? after all the bullshit that's poured out of Paisley Park in the last 20 years, THIS is the one that got you heated enough to consider not being a fan anymore? think about poor Tamar...

I actually did give up on Prince for a couple of years, roughly from late 1999-early 2002. It was not that I was angry with him or anything. I was at a point in life where I let go of the things that had been important to me. Luckily, I came out of that.
It was actually going to the One Night Alone show in Cleveland in March 02 that got me back into Prince. Since then, I have been hardcore. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

I was like, "WHAT?! You have had MORE oppurtunities than any man of ANY race!" Funny for the fact that he doesn't seem to consider himself black, which doesn't matter to me. Yea thats another issue I had with him. In the beginning of his career, he always claimed a mixed race. Then suddenly in the midst of the Warner fued and shortly there after, he claims he Black. I dont get it.. but hey, its Prince..lol

Obviously none of us have, but has anyone come close, and why? My moment was when he decided to start playing the race card. This guy, has had more control of his career since day one than any other artist on the planet. He a multi millionare many times over. In 1992 he signed the Biggest record deal in the history of record deals. He Has more awards than he can count, but he decided out of the blue that things were suddenly tough on him because he was black. I never understood where in the world that came from. Thank God, he got off of that pretty quickly. I don't recall him coming out of the blue with the fact that things were tough on him for being black. I do recall him writing slave on his face because he was owned by the record company and he was upset that they had control of his masters. To me Prince doesn't play the race card he is just proud to be black and since when is it so wrong for someone to speak on it. And for what reason would you say okay I'm done with him if you assumed he was playing the race card when he was black all along. Remember in Under the Cherry Moon 86 he said "and then you get black" you should have just dropped him then if it was an issue. You may not recall it, but he did play the race card. And what he did in Under the Cherry Moon, was not even remotely close to playing a race card. I thought that part was hilarious! Using race as an excuse for your misfortune is a "race card". And he had NO reason to do that.

I was like, "WHAT?! You have had MORE oppurtunities than any man of ANY race!" not when they own your ass Noone owned him. He signed a 100million dollar record deal with Warner, and started crying about it before the ink even dried. Noone twisted him arm to sign it. Then he put out crap like Come and Chaos and Disorder. Just a way of saying Im not putting out any good stuff if I cant get out of this contract. No, i dont totally agree with how some record deals work, and yes, he has changed the way things are done to a certain extent. BUT, he wasnt OWNED. It was HIS choice to sign the contract.

I don't like Prince nowadays. I don't have to like him. I may not like the man.
I may not like his music after the mid 90s. I respect his current artistry...I just don't like him. No hate.

Prince made me really angry back in 1987 and I was really done with his ass and for years I left him totally alone. Then he did a concert here and I decided to take my daughter and see what The 'new' Prince was like. Lord have mercy, no words will ever explain the feeling that went thru me when that man walked out on stage, it was almost spiritual. I will remain a fan for all the days of my life, and here I am! Some time around 1983 I realized that the dude was controversial and his views and mine weren't gonna always match. And still I signed on as a fan. So no, the controversial lyrics never bothered me to that extent.
His gift is flat out once in a lifetime, so he's earned my attention. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

I'm gonna go with the YT incident, but it was excusable. Other than that, and being a jackass, I'm cool. I've been a fan of his for 10 years, its Prince for Godssakes.
