It's his TRADEMARK color.Purple is the color of royalty hence Prince. So I can see why he adopted the color as his favorite.

Im not so sure about Purple being Prince's favorite colour> I think it might be more to do with the fact that Prince is his name and Purple is the colour of royalty....
Purple and yellow have always been my favorite colours since I was about 5 (in 1975 ) and didnt know who the heck Prince was
