I'm going to compare what I consider "matched" songs wherever possible.
• Let's Go Crazy vs. Beat It (perfect matchup) • Take Me With U vs. The Girl Is Mine (perfect matchup - duets) • The Beautiful Ones vs. Baby Be Mine (good matchup) • Computer Blue - Human Nature (bad matchup) • Darling Nikki - The Lady In My Life (bad matchup) • When Doves Cry vs. Billie Jean (perfect matchup IMO) • I Would Die For You vs. P.Y.T. (perfect matchup IMO) • Baby, I'm A Star vs. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' (good matchup) • Purple Rain vs. Thriller (perfect matchup - epic title tracks) So that's it. 9 songs vs. 9 songs. Thriller doesn't hold up as well as Purple Rain after 25+ years. I like this alot.I never saw it this way.I have been listen 2 Thriller this past 2 weeks. It is a great lp,but it is VERY POP.There is no Heart or drive Like PR.Thanks for the matchups I will save them. I love prince and mj but the album that would last the longest is Thriller it's got the best mix of soul, rock, pop .... hence Thriller wins Purple Rain has not got as much soul in it.... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

No, of course he´s not. But he´s my favorite and will always be.

he's definitely in the top league, but then so i believe are ellington, miles, zappa and dylan, and that's just in the last century.
as for michael jackson, thriller and dangerous are right up there for genius quality. but he did get a lot of songwriting and production help along the way. for instance, he didn't even write the infamous bassline to billie jean, truth be told The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Prince has a following but his music does not have the same scope and depth as Michael Jackson had. Remember We Are The World? Prince didn't even want to be a part of it though later he contributed for the tears of your eyes. Michael sung Heal The World and this song is the most humanitarian song I have ever heard. No diss to Prince, I love ya, but Michael Jackson is the best of all time and even though he couldn't play 18 instruments, his beautiful spirit and his ability to touch people of all ages, eras and generations was a once-in-a-lifetime phenomena I shall never forget. You do realize you said, "...his ability to touch people of all ages"!!! Sorry that was just too easy. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Let's Go Crazy - Beat It Take Me With U - The Girl Is Mine The Beautiful Ones - Human Nature Computer Blue - P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) (both are funk workouts) Darling Nikki - Thriller When Doves Cry - Billie Jean I Would Die 4 U - Baby Be Mine Baby I'm A Star - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' Purple Rain - The Lady In My Life (it's about a great ballad, not a title track for me) And in actuality, Jermaine's album was a perfect match for Thriller just about. Dynamite - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' (great percussion heavy numbers) Sweetest Sweetest - Billie Jean (both catchy as hell) Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin' (Duet with Michael Jackson) - Beat It (although not a rock song, it's heavy on the instrumentation) Escape From the Planet of the Ant Men - Thriller (weird horror story including a rap by a deep scary voice, and tales of monsters) Come to Me (One Way or Another) - Baby Be Mine (off beat filler, but listenable too) Do What You Do - Human Nature (Good ballads) Take Good Care of My Heart" (Duet with Whitney Houston) - The Girl Is Mine(The classic mid tempo duet) Some Things Are Private - P.Y.T. (funk work outs) Oh Mother - The Lady In My Life (the women in their lives)

This is the man who plays, dances , sings , teases and pleases all of us at every show and we can't get enough. We hang around chanting Ohh We Ohh Ohhh until he comes back out to give us yet another encore then tell you there's and aftershow and he plays for 3 more hours and never loses stride or presence. I cannot even bring myself to draw any type of comparison between Thriller and Purple Rain. I loved Thriller but Purple Rain just feels more real, raw, mature and sophisticated. I don't see the comparison at all. [Edited 7/13/09 0:11am] "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

Yall better cherish this shit while you can because not one artist after MJ and Prince's debut can touch them. The last of a dying breed indeed. "What you lose in the fire, you will find in the ashes." -Creole Proverb

There aren't many new bands nowadays that I can even listen to, let alone follow for more than 2 albums.

When Bono dies it will be mayhem also because not only did U2 produce great music over decades but Bono is this worldwide humanitarian.
As for current acts with potential to become legends, I vote ColdPlay and Maroon 5.

Is he the best of all time? No one compares (IMO)...and it wouldn't surprise me if the question at the pearly gates is: Did you get Prince's music? Feel me? 2 me Prince has always been the best, so far, I have never experienced another act or musician that have given me that chill, happyness or tears or made me wanna dance so hard as Prince...MJ was great! But to me he will b the no. 2, still miss him tho...what a great no 2!! RIP MJ !

I doubt that a billion people will be watching Prince's funeral. Not that many people even know he exists. I may not like the man.
I may not like his music after the mid 90s. I respect his current artistry...I just don't like him. No hate.

Prince - is he the best of all time?
To me YES..... ..... he was so prolific, 10 albums (9 masterpieces) in 1 decade, I mean who else can deliver THAT, other than Prince ? Prince 4Ever.

Let's not compare Prince to Michael Jackson. Prince's fame has always been based solely on his musical talent. Even when everyone thought he was acting crazy it was always about the music or some dealings with the music industry. Michael had is fame based on Thriller and the other albums but also on all of the weird antics in his personal life and dealings. Prince never devolved into a caricature of himself by showing in random places and doing completely weird stuff. I'd compare Prince to musicians (Stevie Wonder for example) who are famous for being musicians and not their personal lives. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Musically speaking, Prince is a one man wrecking crew...and has been on the highest level from an early age.
When you look at all that he has done, from his own career to all that he's written for others, to the unreleased gems, the live performances...it's absolutely mindboggling...and untouchable. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Can you read? Your post and the first line of my post is saying the same damn thing. The people who supported him all along were his die hard fans. A lot of people were afraid to say they were fans because of the child molestation charges, now its these same people who are rushing out to buy cds. I don't know why you are attacking me. My posts on this subject have been kind to MJ versus some people who have outrighly put him down. Why don't you reply back to them? sorry u feel that way but i was not attacking u just stating my point of view towards your first statement thats all i agree with the rest its kool :)geez no need to cuss me out lol welp

I've always been amazed (and pleased) at how little Prince is in tabloids. He leads a pretty "normal" life for a world reknowned superstar.
