4 The Tears In Ur Eyes I remember seeing a video for this beautiful song. Was there a video made or was it just a performance? Anyways, it would be nice to see it again [Edited 7/3/09 13:31pm]

[Edited 7/3/09 13:20pm] It was a video of a performance by Prince, Wendy, and Lisa showed at the Live Aid event in 1985. Does everyone like the version of this song from the We Are the World album or from the Hits better? I prefer the original. TRUE BLUE

I like the Live Aid version. Terrific song! Prince should play this live at every show [Edited 7/3/09 13:41pm]

The Live Aid event was released on DVD not too long ago, but I don't know if that video was included on the release. Anyone??? TRUE BLUE

My understanding is that the song was recorded in New Orleans @ the Superdome the day after Purple Rain tour. Not sure if the video was shot at the same time. I thought it was interesting since I'm from New Orleans and went to the show only the day before. It was an amazing show!!! The song & or performance would have been recorded somewhere around Feb. 2 or 3, 1985. [Edited 7/3/09 14:06pm] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

the video isn't on the DVD. It was shown at the event not the concert. [Edited 7/3/09 15:38pm]

the video isn't on the DVD. It was shown at the event not the concert. Just to be clear for those who weren't around, the "event" was the television event. Live Aid was shown for what seemed like DAYS. Philadelphia and London were shown on TV. It was even simulcast on a lot of radio stations (I loved recording and listening to the Hall & Oates/Motown/Tina Turner/Mick Jaggar segment. I think Patti Labelle opened that whole portion up). The video was shown in between lulls in the concert in the broadcast. There were other misc announcements, and psa's during it as well. The Prince video was one of them. To my knowledge it was only shown that one time. I'm not really sure if it ever aired again anywhere, but it might have. It's not the best song, so the video acoustic/unplugged version vs. the album version is a 50/50 shot of who's going to like what.

I think you're on the right track. I remember something about the video being recorded on the road or something. If someone has their DMSR book handy, it's in there.

Has anyone searched the bonus materials, or the second disc of the We Are the World DVD release? Netflix lists Prince among the artists included in the bonus features. I've added disc 2 to my que to check it out.

4 THE TEARS IN UR EYES Long ago, there was a man Change stone 2 bread with the touch of his hand Made the blind see and the dumb understand He died 4 the tears in your eyes Your eyes Many people came from all around Hear this man preach, glorious sound Spoke of man in harmony and love abound He died 4 the tears in your eyes Your eyes Your eyes Your...eye... Died 4 the tears in your eyes 4 the tears in your eyes And the tears of sorrow 4 cents may be all that they're worth For the rising sun each day assures us The meek shall inherit the earth The earth Faith is a word, we all should try Describing the man who willingly died Believe that your hunger, sorrow, and fears Is less than the tears in your eyes Your eyes Less than the tears in your eyes 4 the tears in your eyes And the tears of sorrow 4 cents may be all that they're worth (All they're worth) For the rising sun each day assures us The meek shall inherit the earth Say it again... 4 the tears in your eyes And the tears of sorrow 4 cents may be all that they're worth (All they're worth) For the rising sun each day assures us The meek shall inherit the earth The earth Thank you Forever in my life...

I think the video was done specifically for Live Aid, after the Purple Rain tour was over, because Prince already has the UTCM hairstyle in the video...

I like the "We are the world" version better, probably because it was the first version I heard way back in 1985. The other version is good too. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
