I'm thinking MAYBE James Brown, but 4 the most part, I don't think anyone can top Prince in this category (or any category 4 that matter)!

Sorry, James isn't on Prince level when it come to following, James plays benefit concerts, new year eve ball room shows etc. Thats about it, and when was the last time he put out some new music?

But you are right, no one can match prince in hardly any catergory.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

oh when I think Bootleg I gotta say Bob Dylan.Man there are tons of His stuff out here floating.

this is true... bob dylan is probably the most heavily bootlegged artist ever...

he was also one of the first artist to find out what songs had been most bootlegged and digitally remaster and release them on his own...

"the bootleg series vol 1-3" was a beautifully done 3 disc box set of songs that had been heavily bootlegged spanning the years of 61-91...

"the bootleg series vol 4" was the royal albert hall concert from 1966 (which was not actually recorded in royal albert hall)... critics had called this the most famous bootleg of rock history before dylan made it an official 2 disc release...

"the bootlef series vol 5" is 2 disc live set from 1975 from dylan's rolling thunder revue tour... this one also comes with a bonus dvd (for no extra charge) containing live performances...

i wish prince would take a hint and do this type of stuff... he has released "crystal ball," which would be comparable to dylans "boot 1-3" (although anyone who has seen both sets would agree that dylan's is far more beautifully done from the chronilogical arangement of the songs to the packaging and booklet)...

I don't really know any Bowie fans that are as obsessed as me. I don't know many Bowie fans period.

I know of no other artists -- except for maybe Elvis, the Beatles, some classical composers and, to a lesser degree, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin -- that have such an extensive following that fans actually have as much knowledge and vitality around unreleased stuff as released! lol

The mythology surrounding Prince and his work is exceptional, and I wonder if you guys know of other artists that command/have commanded such enigma, research and analysis?

Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, U2, REM, Radiohead, The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson (the still unreleased "Smile" was the "Black Album" of its day), The Doors, The Who, The Clash, Bob Marley, Van Morrison, Syd Barrett, Morrissey, Nick Cave, Miles Davis, John Coltrane (who has a church named after - and inspired by - him) ... I could go on, but you get the general idea.

Kate Bush. Her outtakes are kept well under wraps so for the most part all we have to go on are song titles but certain fans nearly drive themselves mental trying to uncover her unreleased work. She apparantly recorded about 5/6 songs with Prince (excluding Why Should I Love You? and My Computer) but does anyone actually know what they're called or sound like?

AGREED 100%...I've said that before here. That if LIL MAN was to follow Bob's example..it would be awesome.

Imagine like you said Ellis Crystal Ball being a three volume set...

Then we get volume 4... one of his greatest concerts{as deemed by his fans}

Then Volume 5 could contain one of famous afterhows from 1987 and 1988. Something like this would certainly work in his case.
