Prince songs and events in your life Have any Prince songs related directly to events in your life?
Good or bad. I always relate "Last December" to my mother's passing. She passed on the last day of December, 1999.

Tons, but one that jumps immediately to mind is the extended version of Glam Slam. I bought that single on my first trip to New York City in the summer of '88, shortly after graduating from high school, and that song is forever associated with my wild-eyed wonderment at the city and my general excitement and fear over what life would bring next now that I was an adult.

Not a specific song, but the release of Around the World in a Day brings back a memory.
I brought the cassette to my boyfriend's house to listen to it with him, and he got mad and said I liked Prince better than him. He took the cassette in its case and threw it across the room. It hit the wall and smashed apart. I dumped him on the spot. Truth was I did like Prince better than him. All 4 fun and fun 4 all

Good or bad. I always relate "Last December" to my mother's passing. She passed on the last day of December, 1999. I can't say it was Prince. It was Mariah. I was in beauty college, dirt poor, living in a one room efficiency (converted from an old hotel over an antique shop), and living on $275 a month, which had to include $24 a month right off for bus fare for the month, food, and rent ($225). (The stipend later went up to $325 and I moved to a bachelor pad for $185 a month....I felt rich as anyone at that point). But during school, Mariah's "Make It Happen" was popular. I used to write parts of the verses or parts of the song in my cosmetology text book, to always remind me to keep going. GOD how I wanted to quit, get a job, and live a life. But I went to school eight hours a day, plus probably 50 minutes of travel time either direction. It was hard, but I have to say Mariah (and the ) is what pushed me. When I left school, the girls got me balloons and a card. The card had a cat on the front with a band aid on its tail. It said "You Did It!" Inside: "You busted your tail, but you did it!" It really capped it all off for me. However, I did learn the wonderful art of masturbation in 1981, so "Jack U Off" kind of kept my newly developing dirty mind at work. haha

Sign O' the Times is relating to the World today as he sang about things such as diseases, nuclear wars and people dying and how it's played out on the news Sign O' The Times
Oh yeah In France a skinny man Died of a big disease with a little name By chance his girlfriend came across a needle And soon she did the same At home there are seventeen-year-old boys And their idea of fun Is being in a gang called The Disciples High on crack, totin' a machine gun Time, time Hurricane Annie ripped the ceiling of a church And killed everyone inside U turn on the telly and every other story Is tellin' U somebody died Sister killed her baby cuz she could afford 2 feed it And we're sending people 2 the moon In September my cousin tried reefer 4 the very first time Now he's doing horse, it's June Times, times It's silly, no? When a rocket ship explodes And everybody still wants 2 fly Some say a man ain't happy Unless a man truly dies Oh why Time, time Baby make a speech, Star Wars fly Neighbors just shine it on But if a night falls and a bomb falls Will anybody see the dawn Time, times It's silly, no? When a rocket blows And everybody still wants 2 fly Some say a man ain't happy, truly Until a man truly dies Oh why, oh why, Sign O the Times

Okay, but the question was, "Have any Prince songs related directly to events in your life? Good or bad." Not your life time.

Good Love, I lost my virginity to that song in 1997 (Even tho I know its 1986) (It was on a cheep ass bootleg)
Somewhere here on earth (Always reminds me of my Mum's passing) October 2007 Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance reminds of me of a shitty boyfriend I had from 2004 - 2006 (He was the one that dropped a thousand to get his hair done) Holy River, reminds of a beautiful place I used to go on family Holidays too (Last time I went was summer 96/97 and I took my Emancipation discs with me - great memories). Pheromone, reminds me of a gay night club I went to in 1994 and that song was playing (I was 18 and underage at the time) Adore (Kind of reminds of my current partner, we just celebrated two years (Also Cherish by Kool and the Gang is how I feel about him) And thats just some of the memories So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Well, the first time I listened to I could never take the place of your man, I got this huge urge to quit smoking out of nowhere. Now the song always gives me a happy feeling when I listen to it because it reminds me of how I felt when I had my "revelation"

Crucial is mine.
1st time with my girlfriend. As soon as the 1st Chorus set it....so did I. But it was so beautiful, and really made the whole 1st time for both of us so perfect.

Emancipation songs:
Betcha by Golly Wow!: Reminds me of a girl I dated and then she stamped on my heart but b4 that I use 2 sing it to her, in a jokey way but still made us laugh. Was kinda our song. Dreamin' About U: Reminds me of the same girl but when she did stamp on my heart, this song came on and I just broke down and cryed. (btw im not a depressed guy! lol!! this was all along time ago!) And Emancipation the song: Reminds me of my best friend trying to sing the chorus but instead of singing 'FREE to do what I wanna' She just sang 'WEEE!' and then just laughs. Its still funny today!

The whole Parade album takes me to coming to the US from Puerto Rico and trying to adjust to a whole different life. I remember walking a few miles to the record store to get the album 1st thing when the record store opened on the day it was released. I also remember taking the bus with my mom in to NYC to see Under the Cherry Moon at some theater in Times Square.
