Interesting lists I think its apparent that you can split the 80s into two groups:
Amazing, all-time classics, best of the decade from any artist: SOTT, PR, 1999, Parade and Dirty Mind and good, maybe great but just not in the same league: Controversy, Lovesexy, Batman, ATWIAD, Black

I was just going with the albums that were actually released in the 1980's. All are free to do things their way. If I was to add Dream Factory into the list, I would have probably put it at #3. Results so far for this topic to Suprman total of 33 votes.
One was averaged 5 stars = 1, 4 stars = 5th and 3 stars last. Black Album only had 29 votes so averaged its mark. 1st number is actual rank 1st to 10th so far, 2nd number average rank, so number 1 album SOTT got average rank of 2.58 meaning mostly 2nd or 3rd overall 1. Sign o the Times = 2.58 (15 firsts) 2. Purple Rain = 2.67 (10 firsts, very close race) 3. 1999 = 3.30 (4 firsts) 4. Parade = 4.69 (2 firsts) 5. Dirty Mind = 5.09 6. Controversy = 6.08 7. Lovesexy = 6.15 8. ATWIAD = 6.42 9. The Black Album = 7.82 10. Batman = 9.02 (22 lasts including one 9th place last for non Black album voter). So its clearly obvious we all really love Purple Rain and Sign, along with 1999 on its heels being a clear 3rd and Parade and Dirty Mind holding a strong 4th and 5th. 6th to 8th were very close, Black album a distant 9th and BATMAN lurking in 10th place, a very average album compared to the brilliance that proceeded So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Lovesexy is far too low on the list imo - should at least be at #5. Otherwise I think the list looks great. Prince 4Ever.

Sorry about Lovesexy a lot of people rated it between 5 and 9 and mostly an 8 or 9, on the other hand , no 1sts, 2 2nds and a 3rd for it only. Really everything down to 8th place was ahead of the Black and Batman albums, the rest I think was pretty much classics, people were merely putting order of their personal favourites. I ranked it 6th myself. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I agree though, I actually keep my bootleg copy in between Parade and SOTT on the shelf (with TBA inbetween SOTT and LS ) GB is largely made up of 80s stuff too, yup (But none of it had been so close to actual release, as is, before it was released, unlike TBA) - Okay, okay, I made my case, I'll stop now

Ten point scale:
1. Purple Rain 10- Closest thing to a perfect album. 2. SOTT 9.9 - If this was a ten album record could have been the best ever. My all time favorite. 3. 1999 9.8- Easily a definitive Prince album. 4. Black Album 8.9- Still kicks hip-hop ass any day. 5. Lovesexy 8.5 -The feeling you get when you fall in love, not with a boy or girl but the Heavens above. 6. Parade 7.0 - Prince has said that this is one of his least favorite albums... I wonder why ? 7. Batman 7.0- Huge dose of Electro-funk that is forgotten today. 8. Controversy 6.9- Fun album to dance to 9. Around The World In A Day 6.0- Prince should have sat on this album a liitle longer than what he did.Ranks with his worst ever. Paradox because it has some of the best b-sides. I wonder if Roadhouse Garden would have been a better choice? But even as one of the worse it's light years better than other artists best stuff.

The difference is, Dream Factory was never really "finished" and set for release as an album-- there are only different configurations of an "album in progress"-- but The Black Album was finished and would have been in stores in '87 exactly the way it was eventually released.
