I'm with Darwin, The Black album may have been made in the 80's but was not officially available until the 90's.

Interesting lists I think its apparent that you can split the 80s into two groups:

Amazing, all-time classics, best of the decade from any artist:

and good, maybe great but just not in the same league:

BTW, I imagine that much of the music on Graffiti Bridge was written in the 80's. I was just going with the albums that were actually released in the 1980's. All are free to do things their way. If I was to add Dream Factory into the list, I would have probably put it at #3.

to me, the prince album is essentially an album from 1980... the first single peaked in february.

Results so far for this topic to Suprman total of 33 votes.
One was averaged 5 stars = 1, 4 stars = 5th and 3 stars last. Black Album only had 29 votes so averaged its mark.
1st number is actual rank 1st to 10th so far, 2nd number average rank, so number 1 album SOTT got average rank of 2.58 meaning mostly 2nd or 3rd overall

1. Sign o the Times = 2.58 (15 firsts)
2. Purple Rain = 2.67 (10 firsts, very close race)
3. 1999 = 3.30 (4 firsts)
4. Parade = 4.69 (2 firsts)
5. Dirty Mind = 5.09

So its clearly obvious we all really love Purple Rain and Sign, along with 1999 on its heels being a clear 3rd and Parade and Dirty Mind holding a strong 4th and 5th. 6th to 8th were very close, Black album a distant 9th and BATMAN lurking in 10th place, a very average album compared to the brilliance that proceeded

Sorry about Lovesexy a lot of people rated it between 5 and 9 and mostly an 8 or 9, on the other hand , no 1sts, 2 2nds and a 3rd for it only.

Really everything down to 8th place was ahead of the Black and Batman albums, the rest I think was pretty much classics, people were merely putting order of their personal favourites. I ranked it 6th myself.

I wonder if Roadhouse Garden would have been a better choice? But even as one of the worse it's light years better than other artists best stuff.
