Which is Prince's most profound song?

I think Sometimes It Snows In April is a good candidate. Prince almost always gets it right when it comes to profound songs, like Still Would Stand All Time and The Love We Make.

^ Not sure how profound, lyrically, "PUrple Rain" is, but SOTT could be in the running. "Sometimes It Snows in April" just tells a story.

I actually think "Forever In My Life" would be up there for me. It's definitely going to be something personal to him, something that has served as his muse, opposed to a random fictional song. Something like "She's Always In My Hair", "Hello"....etc, as far as "personal" songs. That's what would be profound.

Lyrically:
Forever in my Life (intimate)

SOTT (social)

Musically there's so many, but there's something about Xhalation that just reaches right in my chest and does something. touched

yeahthat and I would add Strange Relationship cuz it speaks to the core dysfunctionality of so many people claiming to be "in love".

He's gone his whole career trying to write something as epic and Earth-shattering as Purple Rain, and he's finally realized it can't be done.

nod It has the unfortunate luck of being a flawless song on a flawed album.

Forever in my life, becuase its his dedication to "GOD", Cinnamon Girl, SST and Money Don't matter 2nite along with Sign o the Times and even Still would stand all time. The Cross and Sometimes it snows in april and the ladder as well. In some ways you could say Free and Pop life are profound too. cool

Prince is more known though for Profane rather than Profound songs (Just had to stick that in) lol

not really, i'd not listened to emancipation for about 5yrs as it's Skipper's Skipathon album, i'd forgotten how great this song is. Just happened to skip to this song this morning and realised (and remembered) it's greatness. It really is profound indeed.

"Purple Rain." A song that is still way ahead of it's time in a way. The song has spirituality woven within it between the meaning of the lyrics.

Purple Rain is a song that penetrates many levels of thought and existence.

The song definitely came directly from Heaven and through Prince to all of us. cool

Not sure who "earnest" is.

God said "I knew you before you were in your mother's womb." Not "I knew purple rain would be a hit." Although he DID know that, not really the point.

Some would say that Purple Rain is not even the best song on the album of the same name.

Definately. That song is profound both musically and lyrically- gives me shivers every time.
