Something is wrong

I just gotta say...something ain't right with Prince. Maybe it's his hip that's bothering him or maybe he's reconsidering the wisdom of releasing 3 albums that should have been one. When I watched the Leno perfomances he seemed like he was holding back, I even detected some sullenness. And the new music really doesn't have alot of exuberance in it, kind of still going through the motions. My guess is that he hasn't felt truly inspired in awhile and as an artist this is starting to bother him.

Does anyone else see this? I want Prince back. He's still got a lot ot offer if he goes back to taking chances.

I know we are all entitled to our opinions but I just did not see this when I watched the performances. Prince seemed his usual fierce, cocksure, happy self (especially during Dreamer and Ol Skool Company, Feel Better was a different vibe but Prince was harldy sullen lol and Somewhere here On Earth was a slow jam). At the end of the inside studio performances he was smiling and thankful and seemed happy when Jay Leno came over to say thanks.

I think you (along with many others) are looking for and seeing something that is not really there. confused

I think his recent performances have been electrifying. Dreamer rocked! That last one he did for Jay's last week Somewhere on Earth? That was one of the best things he's done ever. Very cool

Dreamer was one of the best TV performances I've seen from him (the other 3 Leno songs weren't bad either).

I did feel like he was going through the motions on Ellen though.

I've said it before, I think him not hitting #1 really zapped his excitement level on this project.

I think Lotusflow3r is the best thing he's done in quite awhile (beats the crap out of Planet Earth). And the Leno performances were good, on the whole, with one turn that was out-and-out spectacular (Dreamer).

By most accounts, he was firing on all cylinders for the Nokia/Conga gigs. (I wasn't there - but have heard two of the three and was mightily impressed.) And apart from that chemtrails stuff ( confuse ), the Tavis appearances were good, too.

You need to let Prince be Prince - and quit expecting him to come through with what you want from him.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I understand what you are saying however, I feel like a lot of times people are still looking for the "ball of energy" Prince that used to jump off of pianos and run around like a mad man. smile
Honestly, I think maybe it is, at times, difficult to realize he is older now and just cannot do what he used to.
Now please do not get me wrong, I know that no one "expects" him to still jump off of stages and pianos and so forth, but I think sometimes that mindset is still there for some of his fans. I could be totally wrong though. I think his performances as of late have been fine, and fun. He could be having hip issues...we sure have heard a lot about all of that lately...and he may be in pain. Who knows. But I do think time has mellowed our man some and I think he is still doing just fine, and I think the latest albums are very good!

He's released a triple (or maybe just call it a double) album and barely promoted it at all.
He's not giving us any information on whether or not he will tour.
He's completely incommunicative.
He's started a website as a means to rip off his fans.
Whoever runs said website has messed up every single thing they ever attempted to do.

No, nothing's wrong. Sounds like the same Prince we've known for a while. shrug

lol i've been there recently-to the 'Prince's health' conversations and i've learned-without an official word-folk don't like to talk about health

Gladly-my theory (i kept to myself) seems wrong anyway as now we're hearing about Montreaux. So it's no need for get well soon cards then. wink

why do people keep banging on about his health - bizarre.

why wouldnt he be able to jump off pianos he looks pretty fit to me, maybe he just doesnt want to any more.

BTW 50 isnt old - why do you people think that as he was a dancer that his hips have gone? hes more likely to have excellent muscle strength in his hips and theres no reason to suspect he has bone degeneration, he doesnt walk with difficulty, he still wears heels. Do you all think wendy and lisa are old? have you watched their recent interviews? they dont look old to me or unfit or unable to perform the way they once did. same for prince. do you all think sheilaE is old and unavle to jump around and bang those drums as fierce as back then?

Look at Madonna, she's 50 and fitter than most of the peeps on here stuck at their pcs making up daft stories about prince.

Prince, you don't swear, but please forgive me for saying, WTF DAMN He's 51 not 15 let him be his age. If you gotta see the split and hear the cussing, put on the music of that age and enjoy yourself.

i think Lotusflow3r is exceptional way better than planet earth, i think planet earth was the journey to arrive at lotusflow3r, thing is with prince he pretty much lets us in on his journeys so we get to hear almost all of it, some say he shouldnt release it all and he needs a producer but thats whats unique about prince, we can piece the music together and watch him grow and arrive at a masterpiece.

a bit like looking at all the sketches and roughs of an artist, helps you appreciate all the more the final artwork.

I completely disagree with the thread title, ive posted before that i think he has his mojo back, he's in love i reckon. the music is very well written and the lyrics are good he obviously has a muse in bria.

Umm, okay. We will go with what you said. Maybe he just does not want to jump off of pianos anymore.
No seriously...most people begin having issues as they age! Ask a group of people in the 50 age group and see how many of them are able to jump off of pianos. I am NOT saying he does not do it because of his health, but a lot of people cannot do what they used to be able to do as they age.
I have NO clue if his hips are bad or not, and honestly...it is not my business, nor anyone elses. He does appear to be in good health, for sure! And 50 is NOT old by any means...you are right about that. But I work at a hospital and trust me....it seems a lot of folks begin having issues around age 30 (it is common) that disable them from doing some things they were able to do a few years prior. That is all I am saying.
I guess I just personally do not expect him to either WANT to OR be ABLE to jump around like he used to.

Again, personally...I think he did superb on Leno! I loved the energy and performance. I LOVE the new music...
I think he is on Target and working it.

One thing to keep in mind is that Prince on TV...is somewhat out of his element when he is on a TV stage. When Prince plays over and over again in one spot, I am sure Prince becomes more comfortable.

I believe that Prince has always had a shyness to him...

I think that there can be more pressure in some places than others...I bet Prince was never uncomfortable at "Paisley Park." That's his home. cool

people have issues from 30?

omg! shit i must be nearly dead, im 40. I hadnt realised I might get disabled by age. Really, look at people like Bruce Willis, stallone they didnt even get to make their 'action' movies till they were older. Theyd still out work-out most people.

and yes i can jump off a piano if i choose, or dance the night away to Prince. i guess if you are unfit or over weight or never were active or are pre-disposed to a degenerative illness or had a poor diet, you may start to age at 30. Most people I know didnt start to have kids till they were 30. Now that keeps you fit.

my motherinlaw can keep up with the kids in the park, climb over stuff, do a forward roll and shes 64.

People just arent that 'old' any more. hence the expression life begins at 40.

Alliknow is Daniel Radcliffe(HARRY POTTER) said in an interview recently in PARADE magazine that since he is 20 years old he now can hear his knees crack and that never used to happen to him.

Please let Prince be Prince at 51:-)

I said a lot of people, not ALL, begin having issues around age 30! I know a lot of young folks with bad back problems and so on. And NO, they are not overweight/unfit....whatever. Some people are fine! No one said YOU were nearly dead...but working at a hospital, I see a lot of stuff. So I was simply stating a fact. I know a lot of older people that can do tons of stuff as well.
You are sorta taking what I was trying to say, and making it way more than it needs to be. I was simply trying to make a point that most 50 year-old people, fit or not, do not have as much energy and so forth as they did at age 20-30 ish. Not from what "I" see every day. But...whatever. I never said YOU would get disabled by age, nor anyone else. The point was as SOME people age, they cannot do what they were able to do before. It is a fact of life. OH wait...SOME peoples lives. ALso...I never said a lot of people are DISabled after age 30...I said things begin happening that disable them from doing some things they could do when they were younger. Not DISable them...Maybe I should have used the word Render them "UNable" to do things they were able to do previously....Maybe it was my bad that you totally took what I said out of context.

People just read what they want on these forums, really. confused
Peace!

I have been listening to Lotusflower alot lately. I gave it a little break for awhile, but the thing is definitely holding up as a very enjoyable album. $ is the song that just gets me goin! I truly think its the best thing he's done in ages. Screw how he's promoting it or chart success or whatever. Chances are he's already bored with it and has moved on. One thing we all know is that Prince never stays in one place for long!

I think he was full of energy in the Leno performaces. But I felt he was holding back on Ellen. As for inspiration, the Lotusflow3r set wasn't very good as a whole, even though it contained several good songs, so that may mean that he isn't as inspired now as in the 3121/Planet Earth period. But it's hard to say how inspired someone is that one doesn't know personally. It may be the opposite, he may actually be feeling more inspired know than a few years ago.

I don't think his hip has anything to do with it..or hes artistically bored..he actually looks very enthused in all three leno performances and the ellen one wasnt bad either..The lyrics to Dreamer and Colonized Mind sounds like someone inspired to me....
