Honestly,no I would'nt,because I did'nt even know Prince existed until he released Purple Rain. I thought that PR was his first album,it wasn't until I found the org that I came to know that there were others before that. No. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Totally. As a collector, I think I would have dug that Prince [1979] album up eventually.

I'd probably listen to PRINCE more than For You, but I wouldn't be a fanatic. Not that much to be fanatical about.

Probably not, we would remember him as some one hit wonder from the 70s like Gino Vanelli or someone like Grover Washington, at the most a Ray Parker Junior level of recognition. At least the same level of respect that we reserve for cheesy 70s acts like Exile, Player, Leo Sayer and the Knack. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Probably not
there are no visuals to follow, no Uptown the underground scene, we wouldn't have the band interest

Would never have known or cared about who he was.

My girlfriend (now my wife) had both of these records at the time we started dating. She always played the shit out of them - and heavy-petting ensued, but I wasn't a Purple Convert. Then Dirty Mind dropped and I was hooked like a river carp on fresh corn. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I probably wouldn't have known who he was until I was much older. He would have been a one-hit wonder with a great song (I Wanna Be Your Lover) in my eyes. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Absolutely...There is a mean side of me that wishes that "Prince," was the last album he made and I captured him and locked him up for only me. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I discovered Prince by the 1999 album, so I don't think I would know him by those 2 first albums,
but now that I know them, they are really great, both albums are 8/10 imo. Prince 4Ever.

Without a doubt....HELL YEAH Prince's Sarah

No... He would have needed Controversy to get close to a sound and level of experimentalism that I would have been interested in. To this day, Prince is the probably the only "mainstream" pop artist I regularly listen to. Change it one more time..

I think if you had extended the thread to include Dirty Mind, there would be a lot more yesses and a mystery, what happened to Prince after the seminal record Dirty Mind, was it too Dirty for us mere mortals. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Nope. I Wanna Be Your Lover was a minor hit in the UK, and the albums weren't released here until Prince was a star (I think that was the case, tell me if I'm incorrect). U been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took.

Hell no..i always say that if it wasnt for Dirty Mind, he wouldve been no different than Switch and would've fell off....

Honestly, I was hooked on Prince the first time I heard: I Wanna B ur lover!! I loved him instantly! I don't know what it was about him, but I was hooked!

I still love Switch!!! Bobby and Switch were tight...but yeah, I'd still dig Prince. The 'I Wanna be Your Lover' lyrics flipped my young mental formations so much that I'd always admire him as an artist. And of course there were other songs, plus the early Time material too, right? If I get to still link him to The Time, I think that might still keep him above Terence Trent D'Arby for me, lol. ********************************************

I never heard of Prince until the 1999 album, so no.
Now, if he had only release 1999 and Purple Rain? Yes.
