Funny as hell, but yeah, has more than its moments of darkness...[/quot I agree completely...i really wonder where his head was at when he made that..its funny tho Pissed off with all those who were accusing Prince of losing his edge and funk - so, he cut this wonderful piece of nastiness, with plenty of metaphors and allusions to answering critics (whilst being self-deprecating, which only adds to the humour of the track) and Bob George being some kind of metaphor for critics/managament/record industry (use as appropriate). ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Had U, without question, is the darkest lyrically. If you listen to that song, and think about his relationship with Warners at that time, it really cuts deep. I love it. And it's subtle too, especially for Prince! PIPS! Eurgh...

There Is Lonely ditto on the "There is Lonely." it's made me cry more than once when I'm in the middle of a pitty party. [Edited 6/28/09 11:45am]

"Solo" for sure is his darkest song. If you print out the lyrics it reads like a suicide note I always have to mention this...I babysat birds that loved this song. And I love it too. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

As I posted b4...I agree. I don't see there being any dabate. This is the bleakest song I've heard Prince sing. Lonelier than the man who killed his only brother and didn't no one else to kick it with...maybe it's just cuz I feel I identify and feel terribly lonely like that too....

Dark Moments:
-Essentially any moment past the 3 minute mark on Automatic and DMSR. -Something in the Water (Does Not Compute) - If I Was Your Girlfriend (Listen to the backing bass synth in this song; it is absolutely sinister.) - Paisley Park (The guitar spikes sound so menacing, and I've always found this song to be troubling rather than uplifting) - The Black Album (After SOTT he really enjoyed cramming every song with tiny little phrases and dialogue, and this album is loaded with odd and unsettling snippets of conversation. Lovesexy has it too) [Edited 6/29/09 7:11am]

the first 20 sec's or so of 77 Beverly Park is pretty bleak to...bleak and angry...that is until it turns into schmaltz.

dance with the devil man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
