I watched the movie last night after a long time and I think I just fell in love with Prince's music all over again disbelief

The music on this album was the first contact I ever had with his music. I remember I had just finished middle school so there was nothing to do. I was at home and they aired the movie on VH1, so I decided to watch - I thought maybe that's where The Beautiful Ones was on, I wanted to listen to the original version since I loved Mariah's. I never expected to be as excited about his music as I was disbelief The music is just flawless.

Purple Rain hug

I didn't buy the album until my 15th birthday, though lol Purple Rain boff boff

I was 5 years old this day in 1984. I had only knew about Prince for several months at this point but when I saw that he had a new song out called "When Doves Cry" I was very surprised to see him with something so new so soon to me. I liked the song a lot but when I saw that there was movie to this song and to this album called "Purple Rain", I was very surprised. I liked what I saw and I asked my mom if we could go to the movies to see PR. Mind you, I was 5 and Mom looked at me and said "No" and then laughed. I knew not to ask my mom for the album, but I became a fan thanks to WDC and the rest is history.

25 years of not only an incredible album and film, but 25 years since my life changed and for the better. biggrin
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

No, I'm sure When Doves Cry was No 1 for 4 or 6 weeks or something. It was also the biggest selling single in the US in 1984. Ghostbusters may have knocked it off No 1.

This album and film changed my life. I truly discovered Dance, Music, Sex. Romance when I watched it. I felt msuic for the first time.I now work in music and have so since I came out of that cinema at the age of 17. I still love Prince and his music, particulalry the golden era of 1980-88.

I was age 10 during the Purple Rain era. And this was THE movie that every child at school wanted to see (despite the R rating). And this was also THE album that pretty much convince every child to stop listening to Thriller.

True story!

i was too young to see PR in the theaters when it came out, so my mom took me. she loved the movie so much that she took us to see it 5 more times after that! i think by the last time we watched the movie, she finally quit acting a fool during the end of "the beautiful ones". giggle
