#*tch....You think Ur Special?!...So Do I... Been revisiting 1999 after oh, a decade or more, and I realize that I slept on Something In The Water.... It was not a fave, i skipped it often if not all the time. (the album was a BEAST with so much undeniably FUNKY jams), but the line where Prince says what's in the topic line is HILARIOUS to me. I don't remember hearing it b4. that's so LIKE him. LOL. i wonder if he's learned to defer to the woman in his relationships versus reactions like this.

"Some people tell me i'm kinda cute, but that dont compute when it comes to Y-O-U"...whoever this chick was, was killing his swag...LMAO

i agree, she was killing his swag. me thinks it was Vanity but i disagree that he's AGREEING with her about HER being special. that's the OBVIOUS meaning, but the other lyrics in the song seem to point to him being confused at how she treats him and he's making a case for being special to her with the hopes that it changes how she does. For ex, "what's the angle..what's the scam, guess u think i'm just another one of your fans...."

Yeah, there are many things, hidden gems, all over this album. I ran a multitude of threads, all centering around the 1999 album. For example, on the track "All The Critics Love U" on some of the choruses, underneath his vocal of "Critics", he doubles it with the word "Bitches". So on some of the choruses, he's actually singing "All The Bitches Love U In New York" doubling along with him singing "All The Critics Love You" at the same time. But yeah, the one u highlighted, the "Bitch...u think you're special?" ..a little later, u can hear him say "Come here!" and then some sound effects like he hit something. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I listen to it in this manner EVERY TIME. Automatic is my fav in this album. Something in the Water... was never a fav, until I started "appreciating" P's music. Whoever he singing about mustve treated him like shiiit!

Poor deluded Prince, he has said 1999 was him in kindergarten, how could he know he would never ever outdo this stuff as long as he lived?

1999 was my first Prince album I get quite nostalgic listening to it Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

And this is what makes an album like this even more enjoyable and mysterious. To stay on topic, I definitely think he meant that he was special, too. That bitch should not even attempt to treat him bad, 'cause he can be just as cold. I think it would be typically Prince to say "So do I", meaning himself.

And I think that line is brilliant!
One more thing I'd like to get rid of: The unreleased version is so powerful, too, on a different level. It often makes me cry. Great song, great album, great look, great era.
