Does anyone have any info when this track was recorded? Was it meant for an album ?

It was recorded on June 9, 1988 and it was meant to be included on one of the configurations of the '88 Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic album. The original has synths instead of strings.

thankfully he replaced the synths with strings, then. the strings/guitar duet in the second half of that is one of my favorite moments on any Prince record.

Totally agree, the original sounds like its "missing" something. It could also be because the original is available in horrible quality. But still, good call on replacing the synths with strings

Good post, I was just thinking that the other day (when it was recorded), i guessed it would have been around that time.
I love this song - on The Hits Album I always used to prefer it to Adore, which followed it.
Song with nice memories for me and I love the strings part.

I sometimes think getting the Batman commission was a mixed blessing as the original Rave album includes some amazing songs which to me beat what was on Batman.

I love it because it seems to gradually increase and decrease in intensity, particularly by the second verse, when he shouts.

and by the end, the soft, "cuz you got to know..."

as the strings drop out and the song grooves out...

One of my favorite Prince songs.

this was an odd song for me. I barely even noticed it when the Hits came out, but when Girl 6 came out, it quickly became one of my all time favorites.

I found a remix of this song online recently but it was done by a non Prince DJ it sounded like.
U can imagine how amazing it was when Prince started playing this song at the O2 in London, I was so happy to hear it live and him doing a crooning improvisation! Great!
