similar orchestration and approach. Very little reverb. Funk groove so tight it's claustrophobic.

I definitely think they're similar.
I think if Black Sweat came out 20 years earlier, it would have been a huge hit. I was actually at the concert in Chicago where he played it for the first time. It was during the acoustic part of the show. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!! | |

there have been many different stages where i think prince has
incorporated features of older, or specificially, PR songs into new music. one of the reasons i think he does this, is indirectly to say to critics, "you're so busy moaning about the new, that you cannot even see the old in it... ...and thereby, cannot appreciate the new." yes, i agree w/ black sweat and kiss Snare drum pound on the 2 & 4 | |

yes, Black Sweat reminds me of Kiss: but without the funky guitar.
Instead the song has this high pitched synth line which is a little annoying. I miss the funky 7:45 extended version which might be in Prince's vaults!  Prince 4Ever.  | |
