Will the WB catalogue ever be remastered?

The Beatles are coming in with another set of remastered CDs.

Now I know there's legal issues with creating remasters, but is there ever a day in the foreseeable future when those issues will be over with?

I dont know and I dont really care ... however many years ago there were mutterings of Lovesexy being remastered in 5.1 surround sound , that would be the bollocks cool

I would buy them all, re-mastered with extended versions, B-sides, outtakes,

a dream come true.

But this won't happen until Prince is dead, and most of us too sad

Once Prince is dead and cold in the grave, yes. Or he's just too old and Alzheimer ridden to do anything about it.

It seems that Prince is at an impasse with Warner Bros.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I would love to see the release of a Prince BoxSet similar to The Beatles boxset. The whole collection of official CD releases, remastered and in expanded editions featuring b-sides, extended mixes and out takes.

The completist in me wants it to have every CD spanning his career, the realist in me will settle for WB to do it with the albums they have rights to. All gathered in a purple velvet box.

it would be interesting, but more of me hopes that this does not happen.

Prince and Warner Brothers could make millions together if they can be in agreement on the REMASTERED ALBUMS. All in truth here.....PRINCE'S ENTIRE WARNER BROTHERS CATALOGUE is in dire need of an extreme overhaul. It will happen at some point but as of now there is no agreement.
There are those out there who have REMASTERED most of PRINCE'S ALBUMS and have done a fine job. They stand as the temporary fillers for now. If you can find them.....

lol Heathers quote?

I know it seems impossible now, but I'd like to think things could change like *that* (clicks fingers).

Prince is fickle, say they got some dude in at Warners who wanted to play ball with Prince, and said all the right things, at least for long enough to get the ball rolling. It seems Prince responds well/poorly to people in the business on a personal level, so this might be what it takes.

Prince has done some things a lot of us thought would never happen and they've come and gone, Superbowl, and all the publicity stunts Musicology onwards, why can't remasters be one of those? Prince likes money. Much like unreleased music, I think now it's less about timing than it is about circumstance.

My question is, if this ever happens...

Would P be willing to remaster the WB catalog without censoring all the "rudness" and "explicit" lyrics, and remaster them just as the albums are/were originally??
I don't think so.
Besides, I don't think WB would want "new versions" of classics. Would you?

As he doesn't use that language anymore, fans only have 3 options.

So what do you prefer:

a) No Remasters.
b) Remasters with different lyrics (The Christ, and so...)
c) Remasters with "beeps" all around.

Yeah it is beatdeadhorse but does anyone actually have a real and proper answer as to why it doesn't happen?

I mean who wouldn't buy one of those deluxe versions of his old albums? The Cure, Souxsie, REM, New Order...they've all done it.

What would be best would be a full and proper reissue.
Remastered album with stereo and DTS 5.1 audio versions, B-Sides and Radio Edits/extended versions on another disc. 3rd disc would be a dvd concert (if applicable to that album).

So what is the actual reason this doesn't happen? Squirrelgrease said he is at an impasse with Warners and others say it's because of the swearing? Can someone update with the actual situation as it exists (if known)?

Thanks

I would definitely buy everything up to Lovesexy if he decided to remaster them uncensored/original.

I would not buy them if they were altered for curse words.

Out of those 3 choices, I'd go for b in a flash. Why would anyone want a or c?

It's not like every single song would have to have its lyrics changed and I'd rather have fantastic sounding versions of all the other songs than none at all.

Legally, I don't believe that there is anything stopping WB from reissuing any of his pre Emancipation albums, with the possible exception of The Gold Experience. Am I wrong? Now, outtakes are a whole different thing but I think WB would be well within their rights to reissue what they have with a bonus disc including 12" mixes and other stray tracks that were originally released on WB. If it is true that starting in 2013 Prince will start getting the rights to these albums back I would expect WB to reissue each album before that happens.

For those of you who can't wait till Prince gets his masters back don't be too sure that he will be quick to reissue them. Yes, it would seem like the logical thing to do but Prince and logic don't really get along with each other. razz

I seem to remember that they can re-issue his old stuff as it was but can't re-master it without his permission.

just sign o' the times. that album sounds awfull, mostly through purposely trying to bury wendy and lisa out of every song i think.

and i'm yours. i love that song, but to bring the vocals out more would be amazing.
