The Time: Girl vs. Prince: Girl... Classics!! I have to admit, I LOVE the classic version of Girl with Morris singing the lead and Prince singing in the background. This song is a gem, and I'd love to see Prince remake this song. He should have redone it the way he redid Shhh..., which he gave to Tevin Campbell. Girl is PERFECT!
I also love Girl, which was a b-side from the Around the World in a Day era. (It might have been the b-side from Raspberry Beret... not sure.) That song is slow and precious. One classic line from that song is "Your ass is so tight!" Love that cut! As a matter of fact, this version of Girl is on The B-Sides compilation, but it's abbreviated... unfortunately. In any case, I was just wondering which song the Forum likes better. Tough call... VERY tough call. My vote is probably for The Time's "Girl", but only slightly. And also probably because it's playing right now! lol But if I was playing Prince's Girl, I'd probably vote for that one. But alas... let me narrow it down to one. I vote for The Time's version. But yes indeed, only slightly. I love Prince's voice in the background, and it actually shows us Morris singing with clarity and legitimate compassion, not his trademark "tongue n' cheek" compassion. Not too shabby The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

"Girl" was the b-side of "America".
I prefer The Time's version. I think I like the story better than P's version. Both are great, though. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I've always hated both songs
but,gun 2 my head, I'd choose the Time's version.I find Prince's version so cutesy and sugary that it's sickening.

I think their totally two different songs in their own right. One is more on the sexual side and that's Prince's song and The Time's is more on the loving side. I won't choose from the two for that reason. They are great in their general meaning. [Edited 6/20/09 12:29pm] Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

As far as Prince remaking The Time's version...he's all over their version anyway, so it's not a far fetch to pretend it's him singing.

I love Prince's Girl. I only kinda like The Time's cut. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

No comparison
Girl -the Time has to be taken in the context of the album... the city slicker gigolos hanging out on the stoop Uptown Girl -Around the World in a Day is a psychedelic love/lust song in Paisley Park 2 different visions
