Not sure if this has ever been posted. I was watching a Bio on Eddie Murphy. Chris Rock mentioned that Eddie wrote a movie that he had never made called Purple Wheat. It was a parody on Purple Rain, and starred Buckwheat. It had music, and the whole story was aligned w/ Purple Rain.

Buckwheat is basically in the role of Prince. Eddie said that one song was pretty funny. Because the lead girl character had a weird name, and Buckwheat has a speech impediment, the song was called, "It's So Hard To Say Your Name, That's Why I Never Call You."

Not sure if it would be timely NOW to make it, but who knows. Sounds pretty funny.

Also, have you ever heard Eddie Murphy's CD... the one with What's Up with You with Michael Jackson singing with him? It's actually pretty good. You can tell that Eddie is SO influenced by Michael and Prince... in the style and fashion the videos he did during that era, and with some of his lyrics.

Try to find the CD for like... $1 at a flea market. lol It's worth the buck!

It would have been nice back then, nowadays ... I don't know, nobody seems to be interested in both persons anymore

Im sure theres a real good reason why he never made (or got approved for) the movie..it sounds more like a skit that would've killed on Chappelle's show or something

In 1985, Eddie didn't need approval. He had the clout to do whatever he wanted. He had Beverly Hills Cop, Delirious, 48 Hours and Trading Places under his belt (plus his SNL stint for four years). He also had two very popular comedy albums, "Eddie Murphy" and "Comedian", both of which people were going around quoting for years after the fact. He was a golden child (no pun intended..okay well sorta).

Along with the popularity of Purple Rain, he could have gotten it done if he wanted. He certainly didn't need approval from Prince to do it either.

All of those SNL people who make movies are basically doing longer skits. Whether they movie works or not is up to the fans and viewers. Wayne's World was just a long skit. TWICE. So was a few dozen other movies from SNL cast members.

Since 'Buckwheat' was somewhat offensive to Blacks, I'm assuming any spin-off to it would have been to.

I would've loved "Purple Wheat," had it been made.
