New Position. Funky. I think there are a few album tracks that - had they been properly remixed - would have been outstanding singles.
#1 on my list is New Position. Such a funky, hot little song - - but too short. Imagine a slightly longer remix, perhaps with an extended instrumental section or another verse... Following the massive success stripped-down funk of "Kiss," a remixed/longer version of "New Position" would have TORN UP the airwaves in my opinion. And then an extended 12 mix... with that funky beat.... hells yes. That would have been killer. * * *

I think there is enough beat intro to mix with. I agree this song is a sleeper. It is still fresh enough to remix into a Killer house track white label.

One of my favorite songs. Period. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

mine too. that whole combo of the first 3 songs on parade is just: words fall short of describing how much i love those 3 songs and how many times i must have listened to them over the years. the only melody i ever whistle is the opening to christopher t's parade. whenever i'm tapping my fingers absent mindedly it's to the rhythm of new position. they're that embedded in my brain. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Definitely true, funky for sure
The way the tracks flow on Parade one into the other is fantastic, love it

I love the sequencing for that song. I think Parade is overall once of the best mixed and sequenced album of his. Fitted the whole era and style perfectly well.

Here is the closest thing to an extended mix of "New position":

Not an official mix but yes it's longer than the album version. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Here's something that a lot of people might not know...
"New Position" WAS being considered for a single release after Anotherloverholenyohead. I always remember this, cuz at the time my immediate thought was "Single? But it's only 2:21 long!". Of course a few years later, Prince released "Alphabet St." and the single edit of that wasn't much longer, so maybe it wasn't such a strange choice after all.

If Anotherlover had charted higher, they may have gone for it. I wonder if they would have used the album version or if there was a remix. I love Mountains, but that's where I think the project kinda derailed commercially. Girls & Boys to me was the obvious 2nd single and I remember being shocked when I heard it was Mountains. (Although in retrospect I think now Mountains is my favorite track from the album, but G&B was way more commercial IMHO). * * *

I remember Tom Joyner playing this on his early morning show in Dallas before Parade was released. I damn near creamed in my pants when I first heard this. He had said that he was going to play an (as yet) unreleased Prince track from the new album. I had my tape player ready to go! I played this probably 100 times that day. Like Tame said, Tom Joyner also stated that he liked the speed change at the end when it slows down. I was the funkiest Hispanic on the block that day!

This song is FUNKKKYYY!!!
back back in 1986 I remember I heard New Position played in a local Discotheque here in Ã…lborg, Denmark. This evening they played Kiss, Anotherloverholenyohead, and New Position, really cool, I was so excited. Prince 4Ever.
