Prince @ the 2006 Brit Award Show

This performance is one of the hottest, the visuals the sound was sharp, I loved the rendition of every song on the playlist for that night.

You reunited with Prince in 2006 at the Brit Awards. Tell us a little bit about what led to that reunion and what it was like to rehearsing for the show. Also, the version of "Te Amo Corzon" played that night was very different, did you all work out that arrangement together?

Lisa:

Prince had been in touch with Wendy a little during that time and he asked us both if we would come play at the Brits with him. We hung out a couple of times and had dinner. We jammed... just the three of us. It was a BLAST! Then Sheila came and a few of us played around with Te Amo... we were just in his living room with a guitar and piano... congas? And it was really nice. So, yes, we worked out a little arrangement together.

Wendy:

We thought that the Brits would be a great time for me and Lisa and Prince to show the world that we are stronger, bigger, better and truer than ever. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. There was no press and no direction from Prince to let the people know that was happening. So the result was no one knew that me and Lisa were even in that band! The last song of the night was "Let's Go Crazy" and the cameras were on the twins. It was a real bummer. But it is what it is. We hoped it would be different.

thanks for posting this thumbs up!

This is probably my favorite awards show performance of his thumbs up!

Nice to hear a few comments from Wendy & Lisa about the event. It's sad that it wasn't made into this big huge thing.
But at least they got some input on the next album wink

This would have been a good time to give those damned Twinz the night off.
With a lineup of musicians (and beautiful women) like that on one stage, there was no need for those Barbie-Muppets with their pep squad synchronized foolishness.
They were just a distraction, not in a good way, and here is a perfect example of how distracting they truly were.

Say what you will about Bria, but at least she's not windmilling all over the stage when he tries to play.

It's so easy to view photographs and know why Prince didn't take a hard working, A-list German fan on the road to be a running slave for food and bus board. And I though he was a business man that was concious of saving. cool

I like the Twinz, but reading W&L's thoughts and a few Org members, I think I see much more clearly... Prince could have put them on a stage level next to the drummer behind Lisa.

They look beautiful the Twinz & Tamar but it really does seem a distraction to the band jamming

Well this performance means a lot to me. I had taken a bit of a break from Prince for a few years, and this performance really brought me back! I didnt know he was going to be performing, so I was just watching the Brits, and they introduced Prince - and I thought, great!

Then I looked at the band and I thought, is that Sheila with him? Is that Lisa on keys?? Is that Wendy????!!!!! I felt like I was 15 again.

No joke, I went out the next day and bought any of the CDs I had missed out on. The guy at the record shop said "Oh, Prince? Did you see him on TV last night? He was amazing, I think he's going to make a big comeback" and we had long conversation about favorite albums/songs etc.

I hadn't seen those rehearsal pics before so thanks for posting. Like Wendy I was disappointed that more wasn't made of this "reunion" of sorts. In Prince's defence perhaps if he'd made a huge deal of it, people would have assumed/expected a more permanent Revolution reunion (which was obviously never the plan). He seems to be comfortable being on good terms now, enough to collaborate once in a while with any past musician he wants to. imagine having a toy box like that... cool

Hmmm, I actually thought it was a little bit of a snub in a way, didn't he announce Sheila, and the Twins were all over the shop, but made no reference to W&L? I doubt anyone but fans even knew who they were (or Sheila had he had not name checked her).

Yeah it's weird isn't it. It was as far from a snub as possible in terms of them actually being there and performing (I mean who out of us would have predicted that - despite him and Wendy on Tavis 2 years earlier). But in terms of him not acknowledging them on stage and even replicating the Wendy "Purple Rain kiss on the cheek" but with Tamar - it seemed like a confused moment as far as us die-hards are concerned.

I think Prince is constantly and consistently about marketing his current product (in this case Tamar, Cora, Josh, Twins and the 3121 album).

I guess the main vibe we should get is from Wendy and Lisa's actual account of meeting up with Prince, working out an arrangement together, being exicted and happy to be there. I guess they did not feel snubbed and look very happy in the photos. What a moment it would have been though if Wendy had suddenly stepped in between Prince and Tamar, got the smacker landed on her cheek and punched the air in triumph. lol

Wonderful performance, but I'm telling you he shouldn't have kissed Tamar on national TV, I don't think Manny liked that one bit.

I was so delighted he did that show. It was the start of his climb back to the top for me, followed as it was by the Super Bowl performance, the UK Hall of Fame, the great 3121 and Planet Earth albums, and the O2 stint (though I guess alot of these things are UK-centric). But it got the man back in the eye of the general public in a good way after so many years of weirdness. Nice to finally have the press writing good things about him after so many years of slating him!

And the performance was superb, with Lisa, Wendy and Sheila back! biggrin And the new songs he did were awesome!!

I'll see if I can pull up the video I have the MP3 of this but I'll send he video link to you privately(That is ok Mods?)

The kiss would have been real if he kissed Wendy Lisa & Sheila, because there was a press conference and interview with these 3 before the show (So it was something special) Especialy Purple Rain cause he had Sheila replace Corra on the drums for that one. If he would have just let the band jam and then went 2 each of the 3 ladies and gave them a kiss(those are his friends)

The kiss with Tamar is hard to read, probably just trying to spark something
she came to his mic and sang along on a line and then he kissed her real quick before she walked back

I don’t think Wendy should be so disappointed regarding this performance …. Anyone with musical knowledge knew who they were on stage.

Personally I thought the performance of Purple Rain was the best I have ever heard in 20 years… To hear the opening chords played on a guitar rather than piano made it for me.

I think the general perception in the UK of that performance was ‘it was fantastic’

You can’t beat W&L in the band

I was underwhelmed to say the least, 'Fury' was a mess compared to the SNL performance, Sheila's percussion was out of synch with the main drummer, i thought it was a complete eye/ear sore. I saw no point in Purple Rain at this time.

i recorded over it a couple of days later after viewing a few times, still have the mp3 but don't bother with it.

It did go down well with the crowd that was present though, i'll give him that. but that was more a "hey! It's Prince! Legend!" thing than anything else, i think.
