Prince's Songs That Were Hip At The Time Of Their Release name Prince songs that you think were hip at the time of their release, even if they weren't released to the masses and weren't appreciated by the public.
my example would be Loose! if this had been released as a single and promoted properly, it would have been huge, I believe. in the uk, it came 18 months or so before The Prodigy's Firestarter song and it definitely shares a very similar vibe. Firestarter was a monster hit and and whenever I heard it I kept thinking, 'if only Prince had released Loose! and shown them that he got there first'. any other suggestions or examples?

You did that on perpose. The tittle is misleading. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

The tittle is misleading. of course the title is misleading, that's the point. nice to see that the org sense of irony is alive and kicking* *erratum: this was meant to read 'shame that the org sense of irony isn't apparent'

[Edited 6/16/09 16:45pm] [Edited 6/16/09 16:46pm] no, I didn't change the headline. some over-sensitive mod obviously did that. what a shame. obviously, humour is not allowed on the Org anymore. sad, sad times.

and I've still had no explanation as to why my thread title was changed. humour police alert!

...and still nothing.
my guess is luv4u. as previously proven, if she personally finds it funny then it's all okay, but if it offends her personal morals, then it's censored, locked or deleted regardless of whatever anybody else thinks. it's also weak, obsessive moderating from someone who lets power go to her head and is clearly so desperate to do the right thing by the other members in order to be loved by them all. she so wants to be seen as perfect. one complaint and it's out with the thread-lock or edit, without even morally questioning that the complainer might be wrong or over-reacting. and all from a thread that dared to have a slightly humourous title that gently mocked the current Org obsession about Prince's reputed hip surgery.

you know, I no longer care. I'm glad you see the thread as plain old silly, which was its original intention. but this has just proved how awful the Org as gone recently. OTT moderating and now a humour-free zone. Shame.

"Loose" was nowhere near hip when it was released. Though' I like Come, I cringed at how lame Prince had become aping (badly) a style of music that might have been hip 5 years earlier. I thought "Pheromone", from that same album was way hipper, at least it was original. [Edited 6/16/09 20:43pm]

I believe, "Erotic City," falls into this category. In my opinion, this song is very old dance floor relatated.
"U got the look," still carries a current feeling with it. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Loose! would have been a kick ass single, it would have done very well. I always thought in the 90s that he only released the 'safe'. romantic songs, (think TMBGITW AND BBGW), and never the more rock oriented ones, and so a lot of the public have no idea Prince did those kind of songs well too.
