Prince conducted himself with a little lack of class in my opinion. I still feel he "showcased" a bit much which included tossing his guitar, then strutting off stage like the " bad motherfucker" that he is, but, that wasn't the time to do that. He didn't even stick around to atleast "show some love" to Dhani, which he was looking for btw. x 2 There's a time and a place, imo. And a tribute to a Legend, is not a time to be showing off your razzamataz skills. Play your heart out, yes. But dont be a showman.

Tom Petty said in an interview afterwards that he was glad that Prince played. Something along the lines of until Princes guitar solo it was a bunch of old men singing the same lines over and over. Dhanni's face is priceless. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

But Prince is a showman!!! They knew that when they asked him. If they didn't want him to be Prince. If they didn't want him to be a showman, they should've asked somebody else. Dhani Harrison, the only person who's opinion about this subject really matters. Had a freaking smile on his face a mile long. Tom Petty dug it, too. I love that performance, it's one of his best ever and he didn't sing a note. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

The performance was suppose to be about George Harrison, not Prince. Look at Tom Petty's face when "P" does it. He kinda looks like "What the fuck is he doin?"
Dhani Harrison, on the other hand, loved it. The look on his face is priceless. On the other hand, about 20 seconds later you can see Tom enjoying P's guitar playing: http://www.123video.nl/pl...yFilter=ON

[Edited 6/16/09 21:03pm] [Edited 6/16/09 21:06pm] falling off the stage a bit too much? come on, typical rock groups take dives in the crowd at concert..this was Prince's moment, at least allow the man to "act" out the rocker in him...I wouldnt change a thing in that performance, Prince got inducted and he was just letting loose and having some fun...APPRECIATE that. If other rockers can go over board on stage why deprive Prince the freedom on his special occasion? Jimmy played with his teeth, set his guitar on fire..everyone thinks thats cool...just reminds me of people who labels prince because of his dressing, but 80s hair bands get a nod as cool while playing with the feminine look..why must the rules be different when it comes to Prince?

What do you mean 'falling off the stage backwards was 'unnessasary? When is it ever 'neccesasary, it's just something musicians do ! Prince did it well.

Absolutely loved his performance! And the way Prince tossed his guitar up in the air and pimp-walked himself (pimp hat and all) off the stage after the performance was price less! love the one who is Love!

Prince played an amazing tribute to George Harrison. His sound was so vibrant that it brought George and his legendary sound back to life Prince had that guitar weeping all over the place, I couldn't keep the smile off of my face
I'll always remember that nite as the nite our pretty man stepped up and showed the world who is master of making those funky quitars weep

i would love prince to do a floyd cover, just as long as it isn't another brick part 2. (i hate that song lol) Prince's guitar solo was awesome. Not as awesome as his outfit's that now tho. We in the Prince community always worry about how he is recieved in the 'outside' world... It's too funny.. We are like over-protective mums saying 'OOooo you shouldn't show off. It's not all me, me, me you know Prince...' My God, give the guy a break. He is a performer. He IS known for some of the best performances - let him show off. The others looked like they were loving the interjection of a fresh and lively spirit. That's what Prince has always done, livened up the banal.. He's a master at it! Shut up already, damn.

Apparently many of you are missing the point. There is a time and a place. Just on a side note... I've been a fan since '81, been to countless concerts... even camped-out for tix and and stood in line at 9AM for a show that started at 8PM just to be at the front of the stage. I love the "P" just as much as the next man. And yes, what "P" did was no felony... I've seen him do worse. ..."think from a positive place, and eliminate the negative fate"...

Standard solo, composition-wise, by Prince standards.
It was showmanship, more than anything, that sets this apart. It was 90% flash.
