Prince songs that Michael Jackson could have done better

Let's be honest. Michael Jackson is one of the greatest vocalists and performers that has ever lived... so please don't diss this notion. Yeah, he's a wierdo, wacko, bla bla bla... but let's be mature posters here.

Prince and Michael Jackson are often compared, but only because they were such huge stars in the 80's. I really don't think that their musical styles are similar at all.

But with that being said, I was just wondering if there are any songs by Prince that you think that Michael Jackson could have done just as well, if not better.

I know alot of you are thinking... THAT'S PREPOSTEROUS! HOW DARE YOU! LEAVE THE ORG AND NEVER COME BACK!

Some of you might even call for this thread to be locked and for my banishment.

But I was just curious if there are any Prince songs you'd like to hear Michael "attempt" to perform, and/or think he could have done a better job at.

I'll list a few that I think "might" fit Michael Jackson.

1. Money Don't Matter 2nite

2. Diamonds and Pearls

3. Delirious (I would've liked to see Michael attempt to do this song, if only for what I think he would do dance-wise. He would also do a good job vocally, in my opinion.)

4. Scandalous. (maybe... although I can't imagine Michael singing "touch it, and exlode".)

5. The Morning Papers

6. The Continental (would be fun to see)

I had to pause for a second thinking. Damn, Prince has SO MANY SONGS!!!

7. Shhhh

8. PFUNK (LOL... yeah, PFUNK. I think Mike could maybe turn this in to a "Let's Dance, Let's shout, shake your body down to the ground" jam!!)

9. Black Sweat (BIG maybe! But he would jam to it!)

10. Boys and Girls (No, wait. That was just a joke.) LOL

Prince and Michael have very different vocal styles, delivery, and range. Not saying that 1 couldn't remake one of the other's songs, but to me, Prince divided by Michael = 0.001. Try this comparison with Chris Brown or Mario, or even Justin Timberlake....

5) Right Back Here In My Arms
6) The Holy River
7) Emancipation
8) So Blue
9) Until U're In My Arms Again
10) And God Created Woman (Though Prince's version is superb.)
11) Mountains

That's right.

My choices:

1) Electric Chair ... agree
2) The Arms of Orion ... agree
3) Ronnie Talk To Russia ... maybe, but not sure it fits Mike
4) Gotta Broken Heart Again ... maybe. Never really cared for this song.
5) Right Back Here In My Arms ... wow. I might have to agree
6) The Holy River ... disagree
7) Emancipation ... disagree
8) So Blue ... disagree
9) Until U're In My Arms Again ... wow. Maybe.
10) And God Created Woman (Though Prince's version is superb.) disagree
11) Mountains ... NO FUCKING WAY! lol
12) Still Waiting ... disagree
13) It
... wow... might have to agree.

Wow... some pretty good choices. I TOTALLY agree with you on Electric Chair. Mike would have made that a serious JAM! But of course, Prince adds that certain level of "mischievousness".

The Arms of Orion too. I'm not sure if it fits Michael, but Sheena Easton WAY OUTSINGS Prince in this song.

Thanks for the input!

Wow... I honestly think Michael would KILL How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore... in a good way!

Not sure if She's Always in My Hair fits... Nothing Compares to You... don't think so... 4ever... maybe yes, Do Me Baby... GOOD CHOICE... and Crazy You would probably be a nice little song by Michael too.

Good choices!

thumbs up! MJ is one of my favorite vocalist but he does not have the raw edge
that prince does... Prince would have performed Bad and dirty dianna better than mj....

But I would like to hear mj attempt "until ur in my arms again"..
Seems like the usual MJ sap fest....

I would also add, "... in the comparatively still-conservative, Reagan-era 1980s..." which added to the magnification and errant-but-constant comparison.

That said, I've often seen a strong "crooner" influence in MJ's singing style (it's pretty obvious he was influenced by dancers like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly) but I see influences from folks like Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra in his phrasing.

Because of that, I'd like to see his take on the jazzier/swingish songs in Prince's oeuvre. (Yes, I just like to use "oeuvre" whenever I can. Deal.)

Some songs that come to mind:

* Money Don't Matter Tonight

* Damn U

* The Dance

* When the Lights Go Down

* Strollin'

* She Loves Me For Me

* U Want Me

Hmmm... the notion of Prince doing Bad makes me laugh. BUT... you might be right. Bad is along the same vein as My Name is Prince... which I loved when it first came out.

I don't know man... but it would be interesting to see Prince do this song. Might be kinda hype!!! lol

... but remember, in an interview with Chris Rock, Prince said "Ain't no body singin' "Your butt is mine" to me, and I damn sure wasn't singin' that to him" ... when asked about Mike approaching Prince with singing that song together.

So no... despite Prince's INNUMBERABLE bisexual innuendos, I doubt Prince would sing this song... but if he did... he might do it justice.

"Prince's INNUMBERABLE bisexual innuendos"

We all can agree that some of Prince's early outfit/costumes were effiminate, however...

I challenge you to deliver the lyrix that would qualify as 'bisexual innuendo'...

U really can't imagine Mike doing "Mountains?" Thriller/Victory era MJ would have torn that song up. lol I guess I should have clarified that: For each of the songs I chose, I am not imagining MJ singing them now, but during particular time periods.

For example: 1976-'78 (Jacksons) era MJ would have drastically improved "Still Waiting" and "So Blue." Off The Wall/Triumph MJ would be my pick for "Ronnie Talk To Russia." Dangerous MJ should have done "Holy River" and "Emancipation." And Bad MJ is the vocal era I would choose for "Electric Chair" and "It." Ironically, the MJ eras I would designate for each of my choices are in sync with the actual years Prince released most of these songs.

If somebody has already posted this opinion, I'm sorry if I'm rehashing or repeating:

There is not one goddamned song of Princes that I think Micheal Jackson could do better, especially if they're songs of intimacy or sexuality.

Picturing MJ do a femmed up "Do Me Baby" or "I Love U in Me" with a Chester molester vibe to it would be like watching a snuff film on acid.

That being said, it would be kind of fun to see what MJ could do with:

1) Housequake (think PYT but with more attitude)
2) Where Ever you Go
3) Electric Chair
4) The Ladder
5) When 2 R In Love
6) Continental
7) God Created Woman
8) The Sacrifice of Victor
9) Love (from 3121)
10) Still Would stand All Time

.

That's easy!!

Crucial

Baby you've got to be from a different world
Cause just one look from you could make an army surrender
Baby you've got to rescue me girl
Prisoner in love with the opposite gender

... and then the next verse says "I ain't sayin' you're better baby, I ain't sayin' you're not. I ain't sayin' anything, until you start."

That's pretty bi-sexual to me.

Also, the dance to Daddy Pop that Prince did with Tony M. and the GameBoyz back on Arsenio, when they pretty much rode Prince. Prince was between Tony M.'s legs on his stomach ... kinda like a ... well... you get the visual.

I do agree with you though. Prince is more "effeminite" than gay, but that line from Crucial always struck me as odd.

I don't feel as if ANY of the examples qualify:

1) 'Crucial'...a total misread on your part, if not inaccurate lyrics.

2) 'Diamonds & Pearls' and other religious themed songs: other than the obvious ease of rhyming the word 'Pearls' with 'boy or a girl', Prince's religious songs often erase gender into a unified soul. Check 'One Song' for reference.

3) Anna Stesia: See #2 above. But also, to derive sexual innuendo from a song which is so obviously spiritually influenced?????

4) 'Rock Hard' & 'Bambi": both obvious odes towards female interests.

Prince, heretofore to my knowledge, has never lyrically admitted any association with a bisexual lifestyle. Even though he's pranced around in lingerie designed for females in his younger days, to question his desire to 'sex' a woman vs 'being sexed' by a male, would have brought 5'3 of foot in your arse.(No pun intended) Prince somehow never connected his wearing female lingerie with being homosexual. As if doing so would garner him even more 'luv' from the opposite sex. And since he didn't see a connection, neither have I. Although and even if he were flat out gay, then or now, I would still recognize him as the baddest mofo since K. Loraine Smith. (My dad)

13) It

"It"?...Hell, no. shake..."It" requires some really obsessive vocals, and MJ tends to err on the side of "professionalism" when it comes to his vocals. Prince delivers the line "With u, I swear, I'm a maniac...alright!" with absolute distorted, maniacal perfection...you feel as if he's truly obsessing over having sex with this woman. MJ would sing that lyric (and all the others in that song) with a more detached, pitch-perfect delivery. Sorry, but "It" would be diminished in MJ's hands, I think...

I'd pick those songs that Prince doesn't really put much personal emotion into and which would benefit simply from better vocals:
