SOCIETY LABELS PRINCE AS GAY, BUT...

... majority of people tend to bring up sexuality when Prince is mentioned...he is labeled as gay because of looks alone(not that its a crime to be)but then these cross dressers are seen as studs &/or just cool ?

1. members of guns n roses
2. steven tyler (aerosmith)
3. even george michael(who is gay but not cross dresser)
4. marilyn manson
5. ...well the typical spandex wearing / cake make up 80's HAIR bands, bon jovi, poison, motley crue and the list goes on...

Mansons been attacked by 90% of western culture. He's been accused of being the anti-christ and eating small mammals live. Most ppl don't think he's 'cool'.His inclusion in your list doesn't really seem to fit,and I say that being a fan of his. neutral

ironically, Prince attracted similar negative attacks in the 80's..devil worshiper, inti-christ, you name it, he's been called it..and some of those sentiments still lingers today.

So,
because I wear men's cologne, men's ties, men's suit shirts, i'm gay? or a cross dresser?

Prince will always been talked about,no matter what happens. Society is fucked up,"uptown" pretty much sums it up....
Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth

Prince is the only black person on your list (except for Slash -- and dude's not androgynous).

Androgyny is still often frowned upon in a culture that has seen many of its strong, overtly masculine figures assassinated, lynched, set up or otherwise marginalized. To many blacks, sublimation or dilution of a proud, straight male image is little more than surrendering to what historically has often been predatory dynamic.

Factor in the strong religious connection to many black American families, and that historical aversion to androgyny takes on a "sinful" cast, as well.

Those people were/are not cross dressers. Boy George was a drag queen. Steven Tyler was not.

lol The generalization in the title itself with no research conducted is astounding isn't it? lol Some people will believe anything and it doesn't seem to take much effort.

I don't think society labels prince as gay. shit there are a ton of folk who still don't know who he is or just think "that dude from Purple Rain".

I think many societal circles are past the notion that if a dude wears make up or long hair and sings in a band that he's gay. That type thinking went out in the 80s cuz so many glam rock bands were out and they were snatching up poon tang like weeds. nowadays if you wear a vest and tie, your shoes are really flat, you have a thick beard, work as a preacher or politician, have no scent, and walk like you got a stick up ur but then you're pretty much queer. lol

How old RU, it's hard for me to believe someone who lived the 70's & 80's doesn't get it...

big hair was 70's & 80's who didn't have it or want it? That was common, rock band/metal bands 99% wore eye shadow and make up, spandex & nail polish. That isn't cross dressing, Cross dressing is someone of the opposite sex dress to look like the opposite sex

Even a of pop & rnb groups wore a significant amount of makeup

Steven Tyler was not cross dressing, David Bowie did in the 70's but that also sparked his career, Roger Stewart dressed a lot like 1979-1985 Prince, back in the 70's

flamboyant looks for entertainers was very common in the 70's & 80's

Whitesnake, Kiss, Twisted Sister, Aerosmith were not considered gay or cross dressers
And society does not label Prince gay,
If your talking about the (stupidly)common use of gay "that's so gay" used by a lot of youth now, then I understand and a lot of youth now are so cloned out and tasteless, that I don't even consider them

how people think prince is gay is beyond me. Hes very, VERY much not lol.

I dress very feminine, boot cut, tight black trousers, glittery scarfs, women's necklaces, pointy, clashing shoes, eye liner, face powder, i use women's products to take care of myself like, sensual oils, moisturises, lip care, straighteners for my hair, i wear tight shirts and jah knows what else! Women just have 200x better selections than men. Plus, i dislike trend following.

And man, im obsessed with women, gotta be around em 24/7 and you know what? The girls love it. Its different.

Also, who said all this is gay exclusive? Only one so sure of himself can be totally free 'Uptown'.

Apology accepted. You might want to look up cross dressing and realize it's real meaning, and how it's applied or NOT applied to rock musicians.

Dayclear

For those of you that weren't around back in the day. Prince WANTED to be attractive to both men and women he said so himself, so he intentionally dressed and acted like he did.
